VW Sharan Multiple Temp Sensor Failures Need Fixing

I need advice on potential temperature sensor issues in my 2010 VW Sharan diesel (29000km). My AC wont work, mirror heating is dead, and washer nozzles freeze up in cold weather. The car also shows an error code. Several mechanics gave different opinions, but I suspect a faulty vehicle temperature sensor. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and repair cost in your case? Getting mixed signals from local shops and would appreciate real-world feedback before committing to repairs.

Working as a diagnostics tech previously showed me similar symptoms in my 2013 VW Touran 2.0 TDI. The outside temperature sensor malfunction can indeed cause these multiple system failures, as the sensor diagnostics affect various comfort and safety features. The symptoms match perfectly, non-functioning AC, mirror heating issues, and frozen washer nozzles are classic signs of temperature monitoring system problems. In my case, the main culprit was a corroded wiring harness connecting to the car temperature sensor. The connector had deteriorated due to constant exposure to water and road salt. This required: Complete sensor diagnostics to verify the issue, Removal of front bumper to access the wiring, Replacement of the connector and surrounding harness, Installation of new outside temperature sensor, System recalibration While labor-intensive due to access requirements, this was not a serious mechanical issue affecting engine or safety systems. However, leaving it unfixed can lead to additional comfort system failures over time. The repair took around 4 hours at the shop. Would recommend getting it fixed soon to prevent further system malfunctions, especially before winter weather arrives.

Thanks for that detailed reply about the temperature sensor issues. I actually had the exact same problems with my 2011 VW Sharan last winter. The repair fixed everything perfectly and the vehicle temperature gauge has been working correctly since then. Curious about your final repair costs though? In my case the sensor malfunction diagnosis, parts and labor came to around 450€ total. Also wondering if youve had any other temperature monitoring issues pop up since getting it fixed? Mine has been running great for 8 months now but always good to know what to watch out for.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. After taking my Touran to the mechanic, the temperature sensor fault was resolved completely. The issue turned out to be simpler than initially expected, just a faulty cable connection to the sensor that needed fixing. Total cost was only 95€, much less than your repair. The car temperature sensor has been working flawlessly since the repair. No more issues with the AC, mirror heating, or frozen washer nozzles. Regular sensor diagnostics show everything is functioning perfectly now. The temperature monitoring system has remained stable and accurate through all weather conditions. The key was finding a shop that properly diagnosed the connection problem rather than replacing the entire sensor unit unnecessarily. Sometimes these sensor malfunctions can be fixed with simpler, less expensive solutions when properly diagnosed. Based on my experience over the past year, once the connection issue is properly fixed, these temperature-related problems typically don't return. Just keep an eye on the sensor readings during extreme weather changes to ensure continued proper operation.

After considering all the advice, I went ahead and took my Sharan to a specialized VW workshop. The sensor diagnostics confirmed a faulty outside temperature sensor was causing all the issues. The mechanic found corroded wiring near the front bumper, similar to what others mentioned. The repair involved replacing both the sensor and damaged wiring. They performed a thorough sensor calibration afterward. Total repair time was about 3 hours and cost 450€, which included parts and labor. The vehicle temperature sensor now works perfectly. All systems are back to normal: AC runs great, Mirror heating functions properly, Washer nozzles no longer freeze, Error code is gone Really glad I got this fixed before winter. The repair cost was worth it considering how many systems were affected. No temperature monitoring issues since the fix, and the car feels much more reliable now.
