VW Spacefox Climate Control System Total Failure Fix

Last service was at 82000km and the windshield fogging is becoming more noticeable since then. Thanks for the detailed response. Yes, I am getting U0121 and U0140 error codes during wet conditions. I checked the fuse box yesterday and found that fuse 23 (climate control) had signs of corrosion. Other electrical functions are working normally. The sensor calibration procedure seems similar to what you described. Did your shop do any specific testing of the automotive sensor connections before replacing the harness? Just want to make sure I am not replacing parts unnecessarily, since the climate control issues started quite suddenly after a particularly rainy week.

Thanks for those extra details about the error codes and fuse condition. Yes, before replacing my harness, the shop did a thorough sensor calibration test using their diagnostic equipment. The U0121 and U0140 codes typically indicate communication issues between modules, which matches my experience. The corroded fuse you found is a strong clue. In my Golf Plus, moisture had actually traveled along the wiring from a small windshield seal leak, causing similar corrosion issues that affected multiple car sensor systems. This explains why your problems worsen in wet conditions. The shop performed these specific tests before confirming the harness replacement: Voltage drop test across all climate control connections, Resistance check of the fog sensor circuit, Full system scan to verify sensor calibration status, Visual inspection of wire insulation near the A-pillar My suggestion would be to first replace that corroded fuse and have the windshield seal checked for leaks. The timing of your visibility issues after the last service could indicate the seal was disturbed during maintenance. The sudden onset after rain matches my experience exactly. Let us know what you find after checking these points. If the basic checks dont resolve it, the wiring harness replacement might be your next step, just like in my case.

Thanks for the valuable input. I checked the A-pillar area as suggested and found slight dampness near the windshield seal. After drying the area and replacing fuse 23, some functions started working again, but the automotive sensor issues persist during wet weather. My local workshop can run those diagnostic tests you mentioned next week. The dashboard warning lights are still appearing intermittently, especially when the windshield fogging is heavy in the morning. Will definitely have them check the seal integrity before proceeding with any major parts replacement. Your experience with the wiring harness issue has been really helpful, the symptoms match exactly what I am seeing with my Spacefox. The car sensor problems definitely seem related to moisture intrusion rather than a standalone climate control failure. Will update once I get the test results and find out if I need the same harness replacement that fixed your Golf Plus.

I had a similar electrical issue with my 2006 VW Golf Plus, and having some experience working on VWs, this sounds very familiar. The symptoms you describe match what I encountered, multiple climate control malfunctions and dashboard warning lights all happening together. In my case, the main problem was a damaged wiring connection to the climate control module. The cable insulation had worn through, causing intermittent shorts and confused sensor readings. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed a faulty plug connection at the main climate control unit. The repair involved replacing the damaged wiring harness section and reconnecting all sensors properly. Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor, which solved all the climate-related issues. Before suggesting specific fixes, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical problems? Does the malfunction happen more often in wet weather? Are you getting any specific error codes? Have you checked the fuse box for blown climate control fuses? This would help narrow down if your Spacefox is experiencing the same connectivity issue that affected my Golf Plus. The fog sensor and climate control systems are closely integrated in these VW models, so a single bad connection can trigger multiple visibility and comfort system failures.
