VW Spacefox Electrical Warnings Point to Wiring Issues

My VW Spacefox is showing electrical fault warnings in the dashboard and speedometer, plus the turn signal is acting up. Already checked the turn indicator bulbs but they look fine. The car still runs but these warnings are concerning. Has anyone dealt with similar lighting system issues? What was the actual cause and repair solution in your case? Really interested in knowing if this requires a full diagnostic scan or if there might be a simpler fix. Its a 2017 model with gasoline engine.

As someone with moderate experience working on VWs, I had a very similar issue with my 2015 VW CrossFox. The symptoms were nearly identical, with dashboard warnings and erratic turn indicator behavior. After some troubleshooting, my mechanic found that the main signal lamp wiring harness connector near the fuse box had corroded contacts. The automotive lighting system on these models is quite sensitive to electrical connection issues. The flasher relay was testing fine, but the poor connection was causing irregular voltage supply to the turn signals and instrument cluster. The fix involved cleaning the connector pins and replacing a damaged section of the wiring harness. Total cost was 95€ including parts and labor. Since the repair, all systems have worked perfectly. For your case, I recommend checking: All fuse box connections, Wiring harness condition, especially near the steering column, Ground connection points, Flasher relay functionality Could you share more details about: When did these issues start? Are there any patterns when the problems occur (wet weather, bumpy roads)? Have you had any recent electrical work done? Does the issue affect both left and right turn indicators? This information would help determine if you are dealing with the same root cause.

Thanks for sharing that detailed experience. At my latest service (2 weeks ago), everything was working fine, but the issue started suddenly last week. Both turn signals are affected and it happens regardless of weather or road conditions. I checked all the obvious points you mentioned, fuses, bulbs, and basic connections. Having a mileage of 56062km, I doubt its normal wear and tear. The electrical fault warnings and turn signal problems occur together, which makes me suspect a common cause. Given the similarity to your case, I will have the wiring harness and connectors inspected. The corrosion issue you mentioned seems plausible, especially around the flasher relay area. Will update once I get it checked out. Could it also be worth testing the ground connections while checking the wiring harness? These electrical faults often seem linked.

Thanks for providing those additional details. The timing right after service does raise some red flags. Your symptoms match my CrossFox issue almost exactly, especially with both turn indicators acting up simultaneously. The ground connections are definitely worth checking, my mechanic found that besides the corroded harness connector, one of the main ground points had worked loose during routine maintenance. The combination of poor grounding and connection issues was causing the automotive lighting system to behave erratically. Since your turn signal problems started suddenly after service, have them check if any connections were accidentally disturbed during the work. In my case, the signal lamp wiring near the fuse box had been shifted while accessing other components, which accelerated the connector wear. With similar mileage on my car when this happened, it was definitely not normal wear. The simultaneous electrical warnings and turn indicator issues strongly suggest a common electrical connection problem rather than individual component failures. Keep an eye on whether the dashboard warnings get worse when using other electrical accessories. This helped diagnose my issue, the problems became more noticeable when using the AC or headlights, confirming it was a power supply/ground issue rather than just a faulty flasher unit. When you get it checked, ensure they test the entire signal circuit under load. Simple voltage testing might miss intermittent connection problems that appear only when the system is actually operating.

The issue started suddenly last week without any warning signs. Good point about testing under different electrical loads, I noticed the warnings do get slightly worse when using multiple accessories. Will definitely have them check the entire circuit as you suggested. I just booked an appointment with my regular shop for tomorrow. Given the sudden onset after recent service, I will ask them to thoroughly inspect all wiring harness connections and ground points that might have been disturbed during maintenance. The diagnostic fee is 45€, but worth it to prevent any potential electrical system damage. What you mentioned about the loose ground connection makes perfect sense, especially since both indicator lights and dashboard warnings are affected simultaneously. The similarity to your case with the signal lamp wiring issues near the fuse box is striking. Will update the forum once I get the diagnosis and repair completed, might help others with similar VW electrical gremlins. Thanks for sharing your experience. The detailed explanation about checking connections under load will help ensure the shop does a thorough diagnostic check rather than just basic voltage testing.
