VW T-Roc Stalling: Bad IAC Valve Causes Rough Idle

My T-Roc (2019, gas, 147595km) keeps stalling at idle and runs rough. The check engine light is on and error codes were stored. Im thinking its the IAC valve causing these idle speed issues. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and what was your experience with repairs? The last mechanic visit wasnt great, so hoping to learn from others before taking it in again.

I experienced similar idle control issues with my 2016 VW Golf TSI. The engine stalling and rough idle turned out to be severe carbon buildup in the intake manifold, not just the IAC valve as initially suspected. The symptoms matched exactly, unstable idle speed, engine stalling at stops, and rough running. After inspection, the technician found the intake runners were heavily contaminated, restricting proper airflow. The IAC valve was actually working fine, but couldnt compensate for the restricted air passages. The repair required complete intake manifold removal and professional cleaning. This was not a quick fix, the carbon deposits were significant and had built up over time from direct injection. After cleaning, the idle speed returned to normal and the engine stalling stopped completely. This is generally a serious issue that gets worse if left untreated, potentially leading to more expensive repairs. Regular carbon cleaning maintenance is now part of my service schedule to prevent future buildup. Based on your mileage and symptoms, I suggest having the intake system thoroughly inspected before simply replacing parts.

Thanks for the detailed insight on your carbon buildup issue. Your experience helps a lot since Im battling similar air intake problems. My rough idle and engine stalling symptoms sound identical to what you faced. Just curious, what did the intake manifold cleaning cost in your case? And has the engine idle remained stable since the repair, or have you noticed any recurring issues? Im trying to budget for this fix and want to know if its truly a long-term solution before heading to the shop.

After getting the intake system properly cleaned and addressing the bad idle air control valve, my engine has run perfectly for over 8 months now. The idle speed stays consistent and I havent experienced any more stalling issues. The total repair came to 425€, which included a deep cleaning of the heavily contaminated intake manifold and fixing the faulty IAC valve. While this might seem steep, it was worth every cent considering how smoothly the engine runs now. The car idles like new at stoplights and the rough running is completely gone. Regular maintenance is key though, I now get the intake checked during annual servicing to catch any carbon buildup early. This preventive approach costs way less than waiting until engine idle problems develop again. If your symptoms match what I experienced, investing in a thorough cleaning will likely solve your stalling engine issues for good.

Taking the shop visit for the intake system cleaning was definitely the right call. After seeing your detailed response about the carbon buildup issue, I scheduled an appointment and had my engine thoroughly inspected last week. The mechanic confirmed severe carbon deposits were causing my air intake problems. The cleaning service cost 480€ total, but the results were worth it. The engine idle is now perfectly stable and the stalling has completely stopped. They also showed me the gunked-up parts they cleaned, pretty shocking how much buildup there was. Really glad I asked here first instead of just replacing the IAC valve blindly. The engine runs like new again and I can finally trust the car wont stall at traffic lights anymore. Will definitely stay on top of regular intake cleaning from now on to prevent future issues.
