VW Taigo Active Hood Fault Causing Safety Warnings

My 2022 VW Taigo displays an active hood fault warning along with an airbag warning light. The onboard diagnostics shows a related error code, and I noticed the hood impact sensors have been triggered. This seems connected to the pedestrian safety system. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their active hood system? Particularly interested in hearing about repair experiences and what the root cause turned out to be. The car runs fine otherwise, but these warnings are concerning and I want to understand what Im dealing with before visiting a workshop.

I had a very similar issue with my 2020 VW T-Cross, which shares many safety system components with your Taigo. As someone with moderate experience working on VWs, I can share my troubleshooting journey. The acceleration sensor that feeds data to both the pedestrian safety system and crash detection features was faulty in my case. The active hood and airbag warnings appeared simultaneously, just like yours. This is actually a protection mechanism, the car safety system defaults to a warning state when it detects sensor inconsistencies. My repair process: Had diagnostic scan at workshop, Confirmed faulty acceleration sensor, Complete sensor replacement needed, Total repair cost: 315€, Repair took about 2 hours The collision detection system now works perfectly, and all warning lights cleared immediately after repair. Before suggesting specific solutions, could you share: Have you had any recent impacts or hood repairs? Did the warnings appear suddenly or gradually? Are there any other warning lights active? Have you had the diagnostic codes read? If so, what are they? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different.

After reading your input, I had my service department run a full diagnostic scan. There were no signs of physical damage or impact to the hood area. The latest service was done 2 months ago at 41311km. The system fault shows ERR-3405-P which according to the diagnostic report points to the acceleration sensor assembly. The warnings appeared suddenly during highway driving with no prior indication of issues. No other warning lights are active besides the airbag and active hood alerts. Based on your repair experience, this really sounds like the same sensor problem. Would you recommend going directly to a VW workshop rather than an independent garage for this type of car safety system repair? The crash detection and pedestrian protection features are important safety systems, so I want to make sure the repair is done properly even if it costs more at the dealer.

Thanks for the additional details. Looking at your diagnostic code ERR-3405-P and the identical warning pattern, I am now even more certain you are dealing with the same acceleration sensor issue I had with my VW. Since car electronics and safety systems like crash detection are deeply integrated in modern VWs, I strongly recommend having this repaired at an authorized workshop. While I usually support independent garages for routine maintenance, the car sensor calibration requires VW-specific diagnostic equipment and coding. My experience with the dealer repair: They confirmed sensor fault within 30 minutes, Had proper tools to reset the system, Provided full documentation of the repair, Warranty covered all parts and labor, System fault cleared completely This sensor feeds critical data to multiple safety systems including: Active hood deployment, Airbag timing, Collision detection protocols, Emergency response functions While the 315€ I paid might be higher than an independent shop would charge, the peace of mind knowing the safety systems are properly calibrated was worth it. Given the similarities in our cases and the importance of these safety features, I would make the same choice again. Just ensure they provide a detailed repair report showing proper system initialization and testing.

Based on all the shared information, I actually feel more confident about addressing this now. The ERR-3405-P code perfectly matches the acceleration sensor issue described, and knowing there was no physical damage helps narrow things down. I will schedule the repair at the VW workshop this week. The car sensor calibration requirements make this the sensible choice, even though it may cost more than an independent garage. The activation of both the airbag and active hood warnings, combined with the specific error code, strongly suggests a faulty acceleration sensor rather than any physical damage to the pedestrian safety systems. Will update once the repair is complete, but this discussion has been really helpful in understanding the car electronics involved and importance of proper calibration for these critical safety features. I appreciate the detailed repair cost and process information shared, as it helps set realistic expectations for the workshop visit. The main priority is ensuring all collision detection and safety systems are functioning correctly, so I will make sure to get full documentation of the calibration and testing performed. The similarity to your documented repair case gives me confidence this is the right approach.
