VW Taigo Cold Start Issue: Fuel Injection Investigation

My 2022 VW Taigo is giving me cold start problems and runs poorly until warmed up. When starting from cold, the engine struggles to fire up and idles rough for the first few minutes. Once warm, it runs fine. I suspect issues with the fuel injection system, possibly the cold start injector. Has anyone encountered similar symptoms and had them fixed? Particularly interested in hearing about diagnosed causes and repair solutions from those who have dealt with similar fuel delivery issues. Any tips on what to look for or discuss with the workshop would be really helpful.

Having moderate experience with VW engines, I faced nearly identical cold start problems with a 2020 VW T-Cross. The symptoms were exactly as you describe, rough idle during cold starts and engine misfire issues until the engine warmed up. After running a proper injector test, my workshop found that one of the fuel injectors in the fuel rail was faulty, causing inconsistent fuel delivery during cold operation. The fix involved replacing the defective injector and performing a complete fuel system cleaning, totaling 515€. The repair completely resolved the cold start problems and restored normal idle behavior. The engine now starts smoothly regardless of temperature. To better assist with your situation, could you provide: Current mileage, Service history details, Check engine light status, Any unusual sounds during startup, Fuel type you typically use This information would help determine if you are dealing with the same underlying issue I experienced or if there might be other factors involved.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Taigo has 90091km on the clock and just had its routine service last month. During the cold start, I do notice a distinct ticking noise that goes away once warm. The check engine light occasionally flashes during these rough starts but doesnt stay on. I always use premium 98 octane fuel. The engine misfire symptoms match exactly what you described. I will have the workshop check the fuel injection system and run those injector tests. The fuel delivery issues you mentioned make sense given the cold-only symptoms. Does the 515€ repair cost include just parts, or was that with labor too?

The 515€ I paid included both parts and labor for my T-Cross repair. The ticking noise you describe during cold starts is remarkably similar to what I experienced, it is often a telltale sign of inconsistent fuel delivery due to a failing injector. Since you mentioned using premium fuel and having regular maintenance, we can likely rule out fuel quality issues. The combination of occasional check engine light flashes and hard starting specifically during cold conditions strongly suggests injector-related problems, just as I encountered. The injector test the workshop performed on my vehicle was comprehensive, checking both electrical signals and spray patterns. They found one injector was delivering about 30% less fuel during cold operation, causing the engine misfire. I would specifically request they: Test fuel pressure during cold starts, Perform individual injector testing, Check injector resistance values, Inspect the fuel rail for proper pressure The repair has been reliable since completion, no more cold start issues or engine misfire problems. With your mileage being similar to what mine was, you are likely facing the same fuel system component wear.

Thanks for the detailed responses. After reading about your similar experiences, I feel much more confident about the repair direction. Just scheduled an appointment with my workshop for next week. I specifically asked them to check the fuel rail pressure and run those injector tests you mentioned. The 515€ cost seems reasonable for both parts and labor if it completely resolves these hard starting issues. The ticking noise and engine misfire symptoms matching your experience is particularly reassuring. Good to know it was resolved with injector replacement and fuel system cleaning. Will make sure they do a comprehensive check of all fuel delivery components while its in. Will update once I get the results from the diagnostic tests and repair work. Really hoping its just the one faulty injector causing all these cold start problems like in your case.

Start by checking the transmission fluid level, as low fluid can cause engagement issues, especially on inclines. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface when checking the fluid. If the fluid level is correct, inspect for any leaks or damage to the transmission system. If the problem persists, it might be a sign of a more serious issue with the transmission control module or the gear linkage, and I recommend having a professional mechanic inspect it. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions!
