VW Taigo Misfire: Bad Ignition Coils Causing Engine Stalls

My 2023 VW Taigo is having serious running issues, the engine hesitation and stalling are really concerning. When idling, it frequently stalls out and the check engine light is constantly illuminated. During acceleration, the car jerks noticeably. Initial vehicle diagnostics point toward a potential ignition coil problem, but I want to be certain before proceeding with repairs. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Taigo? What was the actual cause and repair solution in your case? The engine misfire symptoms seem to match ignition coil failure, but Id appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and costs before heading to a workshop.

As someone with some hands-on experience working on VWs, I encountered almost identical symptoms with my 2021 VW T-Cross. The engine hesitation and misfire issues were quite similar to what you describe. After getting the diagnostic codes read, it turned out the coil pack had a damaged connection. The workshop found the plug connection to the coil pack was loose and partially corroded, causing intermittent electrical contact. This explained the engine hesitation, stalling, and check engine light. The repair involved cleaning the connections and replacing the faulty wiring to the coil pack. Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. Since the fix, the ignition system has worked flawlessly with no more misfires or stalling. Before suggesting specific repairs for your case, could you share: Current mileage on your Taigo, Whether the issues occur more frequently when the engine is cold or warm, If you have access to the specific diagnostic trouble codes, Whether the misfire feels isolated to particular engine speeds This information would help determine if your symptoms truly match my experience or if there might be other ignition system components involved.

Just had my 88060km service last month. My issues happen most when the engine is warm, especially during highway driving. The diagnostic trouble code is P0351, which points to ignition coil A circuit malfunction. The misfire seems most noticeable between 2000-3000 RPM. The spark plugs were replaced during my last service, but the ignition coils are original. Given the consistent engine hesitation and misfire symptoms at specific RPMs, along with the P0351 code, I suspect your coil diagnosis might be spot on. Will check the coil connections first before replacing any parts.

Thanks for providing those details. The P0351 code and symptoms at 2000-3000 RPM match exactly what I experienced with my T-Cross. Since your spark plugs are new, this further confirms the ignition coil as the likely culprit. With my repair, checking the coil connections first saved time and money. However, at 88000km, replacing the coil might be worthwhile even if the connections look okay. My mechanic explained that coil failure is common around this mileage, particularly when symptoms occur with a warm engine. My T-Cross showed identical behavior, engine stalling and jerking during highway speeds once warmed up. After the coil and wiring fix, the check engine light cleared and the engine ran smoothly again. The vehicle diagnostics on the P0351 code rarely give false positives for ignition system problems. If cleaning the connections doesnt resolve it, a new coil pack should fix the engine hesitation. Expect similar repair costs around 95€ if just the connections need work, or 180-250€ if the coil needs replacement. Keep us updated on what you find with the connections. Given the matching symptoms and diagnostic code, you should be back to smooth running soon.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Just wanted to update that I followed the advice and checked the coil connections first. Found significant corrosion on the connector pins. Had my mechanic clean and repair the connections, total cost was 85€ including labor. The engine hesitation and misfire issues are completely resolved now. No more stalling or check engine light, and the car runs perfectly even during highway driving. Vehicle diagnostics confirm all systems are operating normally with no error codes. Really glad I investigated the connections before replacing the entire ignition coil. The repair was quick and much cheaper than expected. For anyone else experiencing similar ignition system problems, definitely have the coil connections checked first, especially if you get the P0351 code and engine stalling symptoms.
