VW Taigo Washer Fails Post-Service with LED Warning

My windshield washer stopped working after my last service visit. The warning light for the headlight cleaning system also came on. Car is a 2021 VW Taigo with LED headlights, gas engine at 97874km. Anyone had similar issues? Wondering if there might be a clog or leak in the system. Looking for experiences before heading back to the shop since my last visit was not great.

Had the same malfunction on my 2018 VW T-Roc. The issue turned out to be more than a simple clog in the washer system. The main fault was a damaged cable connection at the washer pump, which also affected the headlight cleaning system since they share the same pump on these VW models. The pump itself tested fine, but the wiring had corroded where it connects to the relay. This caused both systems to fail simultaneously. After the repair, both the windshield washer and headlight cleaning system worked perfectly again. The issue requires proper diagnosis since a leak can show similar symptoms. In my case, the technician first suspected a leak but found the electrical fault during testing. The repair was significant since it required partial removal of the front bumper to access the wiring. Worth checking the fuse first, but given both systems failed after service, the wiring near the pump should be inspected. These symptoms typically point to an electrical fault rather than a mechanical issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience. That was helpful, especially the detail about the wiring connection being the root cause rather than a simple leak or clog in the system. Just wondering how much the repair ended up costing you? Did you have any recurring issues with the washer system or headlight cleaning malfunction after the fix? It would be good to know before I take my Taigo back to the shop, as I want to be prepared for potential costs and make sure they check all the right components.

Following up on your question, after getting it fixed at the shop, the headlight cleaning system fault never appeared again. The repair was completely successful and both the washer and cleaning functions work perfectly now. The total repair cost came to 165€ which covered diagnosing and fixing the faulty cable connection at the pump. While it might seem steep, accessing the wiring requires careful work since the system components are tucked away under panels. No recurring issues at all since the repair. The key was having them properly diagnose the electrical fault rather than just checking for a clog or hose problem. When both systems fail together, its often the wiring or relay causing the fault rather than a blockage in the cleaning system. Make sure to have them specifically check the pump wiring and relay connections when you take your Taigo in. These components tend to need attention around this mileage point in VW models.

Here's how it turned out with my Taigo repair situation: Took it back to a different shop this time. The technician immediately checked the wiring connection to the pump after I mentioned the simultaneous system failures. Just like your case, they found corrosion at the relay connection causing the malfunction. The repair cost was 190€ total, bit more than yours but included a full system inspection and cleaning. They had to remove some panels to access the wiring, but the work only took about 2 hours. Both the windshield washer and LED headlight cleaning system are working perfectly now. No more warning lights or issues since the fix. Really glad I knew to point them toward checking the electrical connections rather than just looking for a leak or clog in the lines. Saved time on unnecessary diagnostics.
