Thanks for the reply. My AC fan still works when I turn the ventilation on but the air coming through isnt cold at all. No error codes showing up on the dash. The last service was done at 70000km and everything checked out fine with the AC system then. The blower motor seems to be working normally but the temperature control is completely unresponsive. Taking it to the shop tomorrow to check for a potential refrigerant leak since thats what a few other Taos owners mentioned in older threads. Hoping its just a minor AC efficiency issue and not a complete system failure. Did your valve replacement fix the cooling issue completely or did you have any recurring problems after?

Thanks for the additional details. Based on what you described, your symptoms do sound a bit different from what I experienced. While my valve issue caused a complete system shutdown, yours seems to have partial functionality with the blower motor still working. After my valve replacement, the cooling system worked flawlessly with no recurring issues. However, your situation sounds more like a refrigerant leak, especially since the air conditioning system is running but not cooling. The lack of error codes with partial system operation typically points to low refrigerant levels rather than a valve failure. Make sure the shop performs a proper leak test during AC maintenance. In my experience with VW systems, refrigerant leaks often occur around: Condenser connections, AC lines, Compressor seals The repair costs for a refrigerant leak are usually between 200€-400€, significantly less than my valve replacement. If they find and fix the leak early, you can avoid more extensive damage to other AC components. A proper diagnosis should include: System pressure testing, UV dye test for leak detection, Electrical testing of the AC controls, Inspection of all cooling system components When the shop checks your car, ask them to verify the compressor engagement. This can help rule out electrical issues versus a simple refrigerant leak.

I appreciate the detailed response and your experience with valve issues. The symptoms you described are definitely different from what I'm seeing, so I'm feeling more confident its likely a refrigerant leak situation. The blower motor continues working normally and having air flow without cooling matches what others have reported with leaks. Good suggestion about the pressure testing and UV dye inspection. Will make sure to ask the shop about checking the compressor engagement and AC efficiency while they diagnose the problem. Really hoping its just a leak around the condenser or AC lines that can be fixed without major component replacement. Going to drop it off first thing tomorrow and will update once I know whats causing the lack of cold air. The potential repair cost of 200€-400€ for a leak fix sounds much better than a complete valve replacement. Thanks for helping me narrow down the likely causes, its helpful to know what questions to ask when I talk to the mechanic.

As someone with some car repair experience, I dealt with a very similar AC system failure in my 2021 VW T-Cross. The symptoms were identical, no response from the AC and no cold air output. After running AC diagnostics, the workshop found defective valves in the air conditioning system. The cooling system inspection revealed the AC relay and pressure switch were functioning correctly, but the valves were preventing proper refrigerant flow. The complete repair, including parts and labor, came to 1000€. This covered: Complete system diagnosis, Valve replacement, Refrigerant recharge, System pressure testing Before committing to major repairs, it would help to know: Does the AC fan still work when you turn on the ventilation? Are you getting any error codes? Have you noticed any unusual noises when trying to activate the AC? When was your last AC service? This information would help determine if you are dealing with the same valve issue or potentially something else in the AC system.
