VW Taos Keyless Entry Fails After Service Visit

My keyless entry suddenly stopped working on my 2022 VW Taos (68000km, gasoline). The diagnostic scan shows an error related to the door handle electronics. The locking system worked fine until my last service visit. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their door handle sensor or wiring fault? Looking for recommendations on trusted mechanics who can properly diagnose and fix this door switch problem. Want to avoid another costly misdiagnosis.

I had a similar door sensor issue with my 2019 VW Tiguan. The electric door handle stopped responding after routine maintenance, showing the same error codes related to door electronics. The root cause was a damaged wiring harness where it flexes between the door frame and body. The constant opening and closing had worn through the protective sleeve, causing intermittent connection issues with the door handle sensor. The repair required: Removing the door panel, Replacing the complete wire harness assembly, Recalibrating the door electronics, Testing the keyless entry system This was more than a simple fix since accessing the wiring meant substantial disassembly. The car door needed to stay open during repairs which took several hours. After replacement, the keyless entry system worked perfectly again. Important to note that generic OBD scanners often misread these door handle sensor faults. The repair needs specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify if its the wiring, handle unit, or control module causing the malfunction. Based on your symptoms, I suggest having the wiring harness inspected first, as this is a known weak point in the system.

Thanks for the detailed reply about the wiring fault. My door handle sensor issues ended up being very similar to what you described. The service technician found a damaged wire harness right where it connects to the door electronics. Did you remember roughly what the repair cost you? Curious if prices have changed much since then. Also wondering if you had any other locking system problems crop up after getting it fixed?

Had the repair done last week, happy to report the door handle electronics are working perfectly now. The fault was exactly as suspected: a damaged wire connecting to the door actuator. Total cost came to 95€ for fixing the cable connection, which seems reasonable given the detailed work involved. The technician showed me where the wire had worn through, causing the sensor issue. They didnt need to replace the entire door handle unit, just repair the connection point. No issues with the locking system since the repair. The keyless entry works smoothly again, and the car door opens and closes without any electronic glitches. The mechanic mentioned these wiring problems are fairly common where cables flex between the door and frame. Best to catch these door electronics issues early before they cause more extensive damage to the system. For anyone else seeing similar symptoms, definitely worth getting the wiring checked first rather than replacing more expensive components.

Thanks for the updates everyone. I wanted to share how my repair experience turned out. After taking it to my regular shop, they quickly identified a damaged wire harness near the door mechanism, exactly where others mentioned seeing issues. The repair took about 3 hours and cost 280€, which included diagnostics and labor. They had to remove the door panel to access the wiring fault and replace a section of the door actuator harness. The sensor issue was resolved once they installed the new wiring and recalibrated the system. Its been 2 weeks since the fix and the keyless entry works perfectly again. No more error codes or problems with the door electronics. Worth every cent to have it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than trying cheaper alternatives that might not have solved the underlying wiring issue. Going to keep an eye on the other doors to catch any similar problems early. The mechanic recommended checking the wire harness flex points during regular maintenance to prevent future issues.
