VW Taos Power Loss Due to Fuel Regulator Issues

Looking for advice on what could be wrong with my VW Taos. The check engine light keeps turning on and the engine lacks power, especially when idling. Sometimes it even stalls. My mechanic said its the fuel pressure regulator but I want a second opinion before going back. Car is a 2023 model with 148432km on it. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Really need to know if I should trust what the mechanic says or look elsewhere for repairs.

Experienced similar issues with a 2020 VW Tiguan. The symptoms match exactly what happens with a failing fuel pressure regulator, rough idle, engine misfire, and power loss. The fuel pressure regulator controls how much fuel reaches the fuel rail, and when it fails, it causes inconsistent pressure. A bad regulator leads to improper fuel mixture, triggering the check engine light and creating those exact symptoms you describe. Last repair required: Testing fuel rail pressure, Confirming pressure drop at idle, Replacing fuel pressure regulator, Clearing error codes, Test driving to verify fix This was a serious repair since continued driving with a faulty regulator risks damaging fuel injectors and causing further engine performance issues. The mechanic is likely correct in their diagnosis, as these symptoms are quite specific to fuel delivery problems. The high mileage on your Taos makes this a common wear item to fail. Getting it fixed sooner prevents additional engine damage and worse fuel economy.

Had exactly the same symptoms on my Taos, rough idle, check engine light, and drop in power. Got it fixed a few months ago. The fuel pressure regulator turned out to be the culprit, just like your mechanic suggests. Really helped solve the engine misfire issues I was having. The diagnosis sounds spot on based on my experience. Would you mind sharing what repair cost they quoted? Mine needed the pressure sensor replaced too since the whole fuel delivery system was affected. Just wondering if any other issues have come up for you since the initial diagnosis?

After replacing the fuel filter and fixing the faulty pressure regulator, my Tiguan has been running perfectly. The rough idle and engine misfire issues completely disappeared. The final repair cost was just 45€ to clear the error codes and verify everything was working correctly. The fuel pressure sensor readings are now stable, and I havent seen the check engine light since the repair. The engine maintains steady power at all speeds, which confirms the mechanic diagnosed the issue correctly. No additional problems have surfaced in the fuel delivery system over the past months. Getting the repair done promptly helped avoid more extensive damage to the engine components. The investment was worth it considering how smoothly the car runs now compared to when the fuel pressure regulator was failing. Since youve had similar work done, youll understand how much difference properly regulated fuel pressure makes to engine performance. Dealing with it early likely saved both of us from more costly repairs down the line.

I decided to trust my mechanics diagnosis and took my Taos in for the repair last week. The fuel pressure regulator replacement cost 320€ plus labor. They also found the fuel pressure sensor was damaged, adding another 150€ to the bill. The repair process was smooth, took about 4 hours total. They tested the fuel rail pressure, confirmed the pressure drop issue, and replaced both parts. After clearing the error codes and a test drive, the difference was immediate. My Taos now runs perfectly, no more rough idle or engine misfire problems. The power is back to normal and the check engine light hasnt come on since. Really glad I got it fixed when I did, as the mechanic showed me how the old parts were badly worn and could have caused more expensive damage to the fuel system if left unchecked. Money well spent considering how much better the car performs now. Thanks everyone for confirming my mechanics diagnosis was on point. Would have hated spending more if I had waited longer to fix it.
