VW Taos Window Failure: Common Issue & Fixes

I have an ongoing issue with my 2023 VW Taos where the power windows stopped working completely. The car shows an error code related to the window system. I suspect the window regulator might be failing, but before taking it to a repair shop, I would like to know if others encountered similar problems. Has anyone dealt with this specific window mechanism failure? What was the actual cause in your case, was it the window motor, regulator, or something else entirely? Please share your repair experiences and approximate repair costs. Since the car is still under warranty, I am also curious about your warranty claim experiences with this particular issue.

Having some experience with VW window issues, I dealt with a similar problem on my 2021 VW T-Cross. The power windows completely stopped responding, showing a system error message on the dashboard. Initially, I thought the window regulator was faulty, but after taking it to the workshop, they diagnosed a defective window control switch in the driver door panel. The window track and other mechanical components were actually fine. The repair involved replacing the main power window switch unit. Total cost was 200€ including labor. The workshop completed the job in about 2 hours. Could you provide more details about your specific symptoms? For example: Do you hear any clicking when pressing the switches? Are all windows affected or just specific ones? Does the auto up/down feature still work? When did the problem first start? Since your Taos is under warranty, definitely take it to the dealer. My issue was post-warranty, but these window control problems are fairly common in VW models and should be covered if the car is still under warranty. Worth noting that sometimes the window switches can act up due to moisture or debris, a thorough cleaning of the switch assembly might help, but given the error code, professional diagnosis would be best.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My car has 71927km on the odometer, and the last service was just done 2 weeks ago. To answer your questions about the symptoms: I hear no clicking sounds at all when pressing any window switches. The issue affects all windows simultaneously, and the auto up/down features are completely non-functional. The problem started suddenly yesterday while driving. I checked the window motor fuses, but they appear intact. The car electronics otherwise work fine, just the window mechanism seems dead. The control switches on all doors show no response or lights. Given this affects all windows at once, I suspect it might be a central electrical issue rather than individual window motors failing. Anyone else experienced total window system failure like this? The error code specifically mentions a window control module fault.

Based on your description, this does sound very similar to what I experienced with my T-Cross. The simultaneous failure of all windows with no clicking sound strongly points to a central window control module issue rather than individual regulator motors. In my case, after the switch replacement didnt fully resolve the problem, the workshop found that the central window control module in the driver door panel had failed. This explained why all windows were affected simultaneously. The complete lack of response from any window control suggests a main module failure rather than individual window issues. My repair ultimately required: Replacement of the central control module, Reprogramming of the new module, Basic settings reset Total repair cost was 450€ including programming. The module itself was around 280€. Since your car just had service, check if any work was done near the door panels or electrical systems. Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting the battery can temporarily resolve electronic control module issues. However, given the error code specifically mentions the control module, a replacement will likely be needed. The window track and regulator motor components are probably fine since this appears to be an electrical control issue rather than a mechanical problem with the automotive repair components.

Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences. After reading your responses and comparing symptoms, I scheduled a warranty service appointment for next week. The total system failure affecting all windows simultaneously, combined with the specific control module error code, does suggest an electrical rather than mechanical issue. The complete absence of any response from the window switches across all doors seems consistent with the central control module failure others mentioned. Since the car has low mileage and is under warranty, I feel more confident now that this should be a covered repair. The timing right after the recent service is interesting, I will mention this to the dealer when I bring it in. What bothers me most is having no window control at all. Have to park in covered areas until the repair since I cant close the windows if it rains. Will update once I get the final diagnosis from the dealer, especially if it turns out to be something different than the window regulator motor or control module issues discussed here.
