Thanks for your detailed explanation about the MOST bus repair. Just had the same issue fixed on my Tiguan last month. The fiber optics connection was indeed broken and needed complete replacement along with a new control unit to restore the data transmission. Can you remember what the total repair cost was in your case? My bill came to 1200€ including parts and labor. Also curious if youve had any other electronics glitches since the repair? My system has been working flawlessly so far but want to know what to watch out for.

Since having my Touareg repaired at the workshop, the MOST bus system has worked perfectly with no further issues. The total repair bill came to 1000€, which covered replacing the faulty control unit and repairing the fiber optics connection. This seems fairly reasonable compared to your cost, considering the complexity of car electronics and the specialized diagnostic equipment needed. The car diagnostics showed all systems communicating properly through the bus network after the fix. Its been over a year now, and the infotainment system, including navigation and audio, continues to function as intended with no communication errors or glitches. If your car electronics are working properly now, chances are the repair was done correctly. These MOST bus issues rarely reoccur once properly fixed, as long as the fiber optics and control units are installed correctly and initialized properly in the system.

Thanks everyone for the insights. Wanted to share how my repair experience turned out. Took the car to a certified workshop specializing in automotive protocol systems. The mechanic confirmed the MOST bus failure and found multiple breaks in the fiber optics ring. The entire repair took two days since they needed to carefully trace all the connections in the bus network. They ended up replacing both the main control unit and several fiber optic cables. Total cost was 1200€, which seems fair given the complex car electronics work involved. Been three weeks since the repair and everything works perfectly now. The audio, navigation, and all other infotainment features are back to normal. Really glad I found a shop with proper diagnostic equipment and experience working with these systems. Much better outcome than my previous repair attempts. Just keeping this documented here in case others run into similar MOST bus issues with their vehicles. The key seems to be finding a technician who actually understands fiber optics and bus network diagnostics.

I faced similar symptoms on my 2011 VW Touareg TDI. The infotainment system completely shut down, and diagnostic scans revealed multiple data transmission errors in the MOST bus network. The fiber optics ring in these systems is quite sensitive. In my case, the main control unit lost communication with other modules due to a defective optical connector. The car electronics diagnostic showed the fiber optic ring was broken, preventing proper data flow between components. This turned out to be a serious issue requiring specialized equipment to diagnose and repair. The technicians had to remove several interior panels to access and test the entire bus network. They found physical damage to one connector and had to replace both the connector and the control unit since they were integrated. The repair process was complex due to the need for precise fiber optic alignment and proper initialization of the new control unit. After fixing it, they had to reprogram the system to ensure all modules communicated correctly. These symptoms definitely indicate a MOST bus failure. Would strongly recommend having it checked by a workshop with experience in VW car electronics and fiber optics diagnostics, as improper repair can cause more damage to the network.
