VW Touareg Electrical Nightmare: Nav Dead & ECU Errors

Thanks for sharing your experience. My error codes include P0601 and P0605 among others. The issue is constant and started right after the last service at 119875km. Besides the navigation, the automatic climate control is also acting up, out of nowhere switching between settings. No recent repairs except routine maintenance, and the battery tested fine. The strange part is that all these problems started simultaneously, which makes me think its a central control module issue rather than multiple separate failures. Would be helpful to know if your workshop needed any special diagnostic tools for the software reset they performed.

Based on those error codes and symptoms, your situation sounds nearly identical to what I experienced. The simultaneous failure of multiple systems is a classic indicator of a software malfunction in the central control unit, just like what happened with my Tiguan. The workshop used a VAS diagnostic system to perform the software reset and update. They explained that P0601 and P0605 specifically point to control unit memory issues, which matched my case perfectly. The climate control problems you mentioned also mirror what I experienced, unusual setting changes were one of the first signs something was wrong with the system. After the complete software update, they had to recalibrate several control units to ensure proper communication between systems. The process took about 3 hours, but the results were immediate. All electrical systems returned to normal operation, including navigation and climate control. One important detail: make sure the workshop checks for any pending software updates from the manufacturer. In my case, there was a specific update available that addressed similar control unit issues in our model year. Given the matching symptoms and error codes, a software reset followed by system recalibration should resolve your issues, just as it did with mine. The total repair time and cost should be comparable to what I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the detailed responses. Just wanted to update that I took the car to a specialist workshop yesterday. They confirmed it was indeed a control unit issue requiring both a software reset and recalibration. The onboard diagnostics revealed the same memory fault that others mentioned. The repair involved a complete software update of the main control module, followed by system-wide recalibration. Total cost came to 280€ and took about 4 hours. All systems are now working perfectly, navigation is back online and the climate control is behaving normally. The error codes have cleared and haven't returned. For anyone facing similar issues, definitely worth checking the control unit software before assuming hardware failure. The workshop mentioned they see this issue fairly regularly on models from this era, and software updates often resolve these types of electrical gremlins. Really appreciate all the guidance here, helped me better understand the problem and know what to expect from the repair process.

I had a similar issue with my 2012 VW Tiguan last year. I have some experience working on cars but electronic issues were beyond my comfort zone. The symptoms matched yours, navigation system failure and multiple error codes. The issue turned out to be a software malfunction in the main control unit. Initially, the workshop suspected a hardware failure, but diagnostic testing revealed corrupted software data. The fix required a complete control unit recalibration and software update. Total cost was 240€ which included diagnostic work and reprogramming. Since the repair, all systems have been working perfectly with no error codes. To better assist with your situation, could you share: What specific error codes are you seeing? Are there any other electrical systems affected? Has the vehicle had any recent repairs or battery issues? Does the issue occur constantly or intermittently? Vehicle software problems can be tricky to diagnose, but knowing these details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my Tiguan.
