VW Touareg Massage Seat Malfunction & Error Code Fix

Current mileage 51471km, last serviced in November. The error code showing is P0562. All other seat functions work perfectly, including heating and position memory. The massage function stopped suddenly while driving, with no warning signs or unusual sounds before. Even now, pressing the massage switch produces no sound or movement. When checking fuses, all appear intact, and resetting the car battery didnt resolve the issue. I also tried different seat position settings thinking it might trigger the massage function, but no success. The timing is frustrating with the warranty about to expire. Hoping its just a switch failure rather than the entire massage seat module needing replacement.

Having gone through this exact issue with my Touareg, I can add more insight based on that error code. P0562 typically indicates a system voltage problem, which explains why my initial thought about just the loose connection might not be the complete story. After seeing your details, my case was remarkably similar, identical mileage range, sudden failure, and the same error code. What I initially thought was just a massage switch failure turned out to be the seat motor control module itself. The module was registering incorrect voltage readings, causing the luxury car massage setting to shut down as a protective measure. The good news in my repair experience: while the seat motor module needed replacement, it was significantly cheaper than replacing the entire massage seat system. The repair cost came to 450€, including parts and labor. The fix restored all massage functions perfectly. Since youre still under warranty, strongly recommend getting this documented and repaired now. When my module failed, the dealer confirmed this is a known issue with this model year, and waiting could lead to more extensive damage to the massage components. Would you mind checking if your massage control module shows any signs of heat damage? In my case, there was slight discoloration around the module housing under the seat.

Thanks for the detailed information. The control module under my seat looks completely normal with no visible heat damage or discoloration. Since posting, I checked with two dealerships for warranty coverage estimates. One quoted 780€ for full module replacement while the other suggested they could potentially repair the existing module for around 400€. Given these quotes and the fact my car upholstery and other seat functions are working fine, I've decided to get it fixed under warranty next week rather than risk paying out of pocket later. The service advisor mentioned they see this massage setting failure fairly regularly on 2016-2017 models and its usually related to the control module rather than just a switch failure. Makes me feel better knowing others have dealt with this same issue and got it resolved without major complications. Will update once its fixed in case anyone else runs into similar problems with their Touareg massage seats.

As someone with moderate experience working on VWs, I had a similar issue with my 2015 VW Phaeton where the massage seat function failed completely. The automotive seats in these models share quite similar massage systems and common failure points. The problem turned out to be a loose connection between the seat motor control unit and the massage function wiring harness. The switch failure symptoms were identical, no response when activating the massage controls and an error code on the display. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed and fixed the issue. They found a damaged wire in the plug connection that connects to the massage seat control module. Total repair cost was 95€, which covered diagnostic time and fixing the connection. Before jumping to conclusions about your Touareg though, could you share: The specific error code showing up, Whether the regular seat adjustment functions still work, If you notice any unusual sounds when trying to activate the massage, If the issue started gradually or suddenly This would help determine if youre dealing with the same connector issue or potentially something else in the massage chair system. With the warranty ending soon, its worth getting properly diagnosed.
