VW Touran Engine Symptoms Point to Fuel System Failure

Hey, my fairly new VW Touran seems to have some serious engine troubles lately. The fuel consumption went through the roof and I notice heavy power loss, especially when accelerating. Sometimes it even stalls when idling and there is smoke coming from the exhaust. Looks like a fuel injection problem to me but my last mechanic visit wasnt great, so I am hesitant to go back. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their Touran? Mine is a 2023 petrol model with 118049km on the clock. Would appreciate some advice on what to check and maybe recommendations for getting it properly fixed.

Faced similar issues on a 2020 VW Tiguan petrol. Those symptoms point strongly to faulty fuel injectors or compromised injector wiring harness. The performance loss and high fuel consumption match exactly what happened in my case. The smoke, especially if its blueish or black, combined with rough idling typically indicates a fuel delivery problem. The repair involved replacing two faulty injector connectors and cleaning the remaining injectors. The wiring had deteriorated, causing inconsistent fuel spray patterns. This requires proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact injector thats malfunctioning. Its a serious issue that needs immediate attention as it can lead to: Further engine performance degradation, Potential catalytic converter damage, Increased fuel consumption, Risk of complete engine failure Would strongly suggest having the fuel system diagnostics done at a VW specialist. The fuel injection system is complex and requires specific knowledge. Cleaning alone might not solve it if there are electrical connection issues like in my case. The repair was significant but necessary to prevent more extensive engine damage. This isnt something that will fix itself or improve with basic maintenance.

Thanks for that detailed reply about your Tiguan fuel injector troubles. Your symptoms do sound identical to what I am experiencing. Its scary to hear it could lead to complete engine failure. My engine performance gets worse by the day. I will definitely look for a VW specialist to check the fuel injection system. Did you remember approximately how much you paid for the repair? Also curious if you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed?

Got my Tiguan back from the repair shop last week. The injection system fault was exactly what we suspected. Turned out to be a straightforward fix, just a loose cable connection to one of the injectors that was causing the entire system to perform poorly. The repair cost was 95€, much less than I initially feared. Since the repair, the engine performance is back to normal. Fuel consumption dropped back to standard levels and that worrying smoke is completely gone. No stalling or rough running issues anymore. The air-fuel mixture is clearly spot on now. Regular maintenance and catching these fuel system issues early really makes a difference to prevent bigger problems. Would definitely recommend getting yours checked soon while its still likely a minor fix.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to update on my Touran situation. Finally got the courage to visit a different mechanic, a certified VW specialist, and glad I did. The fuel injection system was indeed the culprit. They found two damaged injector connectors and some dirty injectors. The whole repair including diagnostics, parts, and labor came to 380€. More than I hoped but less than I feared given the symptoms. The engine performance is completely restored now. No more excessive petrol consumption or power loss. The smoke is gone and it runs smoothly even at idle. Such a relief to have it sorted properly. Want to thank those who pushed me to get it checked by a specialist rather than putting it off. The mechanic mentioned waiting longer could have caused serious engine damage, so definitely the right call to fix it now.
