Thanks for the detailed explanation of the sensor and hood actuator issue. The same fault appeared on my 2012 Touran a few months ago. Your description matches exactly what my mechanic explained about the collision detection system being triggered. Did you remember roughly how much the complete repair cost in the end? Also wondering if you experienced any related issues with the car safety systems after everything was fixed? The price point would really help since Im now facing the same repair decision. My local garage quoted significantly more than I expected for replacing the impact sensors and hood mechanism.

Great news, I just had this system fault resolved last week. The total repair came to 315€, mainly due to a defective acceleration sensor that needed replacement. The mechanics found this was the root cause triggering the active hood warning. The car electronics are now functioning perfectly, with no warning lights or issues since the repair. The crash detection system has been fully recalibrated and all car safety features are operating as designed. My previous concern about the airbag system was completely resolved once they fixed the faulty impact sensor. When I initially got quotes, some garages suggested replacing the entire hood mechanism which would have cost significantly more. Having a proper diagnostic scan done first saved me from unnecessary repairs, as the issue was isolated to just the sensor component. For peace of mind, I recommend getting it checked soon. While the repair cost was reasonable in my case, driving with compromised safety systems isnt worth the risk. The car sensor network needs to be fully operational to ensure proper crash detection functionality.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I finally got the repair done last week and wanted to share my experience. Found a certified mechanic who really knew their way around the collision detection systems. The total cost ended up being 780€, which included: New hood latch mechanisms, Sensor replacement, Full system reset, Labor costs The repair took about 4 hours. The mechanic showed me the old triggered actuators and explained how the safety system works together with the crash detection features. All warning lights are now off and the car feels much safer to drive. One tip: make sure to get a proper diagnostic scan first. My mechanic caught an additional faulty wire connection that could have caused problems later. The extra diagnostic time was worth it for proper car safety. Really glad I got this fixed promptly rather than putting it off. The airbag and active hood warnings are completely gone, and all safety systems are working perfectly now.

Having experienced similar warning lights in my 2015 VW Passat 2.0 TDI, I can provide relevant insight. The active hood system uses impact sensors and crash detection technology that directly connects to the airbag control module. When these warnings appear together, its typically due to the pedestrian protection system being triggered. The spring actuators deploy as a car safety feature, lifting the hood to create a crumple zone. Once deployed, they need complete replacement along with a reset of the airbag control module. From my garage experience, this required: Replacement of both hood actuators, New impact sensors, Full diagnostic scan and reset of car electronics, Recalibration of the airbag system This was a serious repair that needed immediate attention. The active hood is a critical safety system, and when faulty, it can affect the entire airbag system functionality. Driving with these warning lights means your vehicle safety systems are compromised. Recommendation: Have it checked immediately by a VW specialist who can properly diagnose and reset the car sensor systems. Continuing to drive risks having non-functional safety systems in case of an accident.
