Last serviced 2 months ago at 75479km. Thanks for the detailed response. Yes, the key fob battery is original from 2021. I have 2 key fobs and both show the same symptoms. No low voltage warnings appear at startup. The behavior seems consistent regardless of weather conditions. Based on your experience, it sounds like a simple key battery replacement might solve my problem. The gradual decline in performance matches what you described. Will try replacing both fob batteries first before considering more expensive repairs. The dealership quoted 45€ for replacing both key fob batteries. Seems reasonable given they use original parts and can verify proper system function afterward.

Thanks for the update. Since both key fobs are showing identical symptoms and they are original from 2021, this strongly reinforces my initial suspicion about the battery issue. The fact that there are no low voltage warnings is not unusual, the electronic key system often starts failing before any dashboard warnings appear. The 45€ quote for both key battery replacements is fair. In my case, after the replacement, the workshop also cleared the stored error codes, which prevented any lingering issues with the keyless system. A quick tip from my experience: once you get the new batteries installed, test both key fobs thoroughly while still at the workshop. Check all doors and the trunk with the keyless access to ensure everything works properly. When my batteries were replaced, it took a few lock/unlock cycles for the system to fully resynchronize. The identical behavior in both fobs, combined with their age, makes me quite confident this will resolve your issue, just as it did with mine. The gradual performance decline is a classic sign of aging key batteries rather than a system malfunction. Let us know how it works out after the battery replacement. It would help others who might face similar keyless access problems in the future.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Just wanted to provide an update, I got both electronic key batteries replaced yesterday at the dealership for 45€. The symptoms matched exactly what was described, it was indeed just worn out key fob batteries causing the keyless access issues. The technician cleared the error codes and tested all functions. After a few lock/unlock cycles to resync the system, both car keys are working perfectly again. All keyless features are back to normal, no more inconsistent operation. Really glad I checked here first before assuming worse problems. A simple key battery replacement solved everything. Good reminder that electronic key fobs need regular maintenance too, even if there are no obvious warning signs. This will definitely save others time and worry if they experience similar gradual key fob failure in their keyless entry systems.

Having some experience with VW products, I encountered a similar issue with my 2019 VW Passat diesel. The symptoms you describe match exactly what happened with my key fob battery going dead. I first noticed inconsistent door locking, having to press the button multiple times. The keyless entry gradually became less reliable until it stopped working completely. While the mechanical key still worked, the convenience features were affected. The fix was straightforward, a simple key battery replacement at the workshop cost 37€, including labor. They used a genuine battery compatible with the key fob. After replacement, all keyless functions returned to normal immediately. Before spending money though, would you mind sharing: How old is your current key fob battery? Does the problem occur with all key fobs if you have spares? Are you getting any low voltage warnings when starting the car? Have you noticed the key fob working better with fresh environmental conditions (warm vs cold)? This information would help determine if your issue is indeed just a low battery or potentially something more complex in the keyless system. Remember that modern key fobs typically need battery replacement every 2-3 years, depending on usage. If your original battery is still in use since 2021, this might be the right time for replacement.
