VW Touran Oil Warning Light Fix: Faulty Sensor Alert

My 2010 VW Touran shows oil pressure warnings and errors but oil level seems fine. I am getting multiple warning lights in the speedometer cluster along with stored error codes. Research points to a potential oil level sensor issue, but I want to be certain before proceeding with repairs. Looking for feedback from others who encountered similar problems with oil monitoring systems. Has anyone dealt with this specific sensor issue and how was it resolved at the repair shop? The car runs a gasoline engine and car maintenance has been done regularly. Particularly interested in actual repair costs and whether replacing the sensor fixed all warning lights. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Had a similar issue with my 2012 VW Tiguan with the 2.0 TSI engine. As someone with some hands-on experience working on VWs, these oil sensor issues can be tricky to diagnose. The oil gauge was acting up exactly like yours, triggering warning lights despite proper oil levels. The oil detection system kept showing errors that made no sense given the actual oil condition. After running diagnostics, it turned out the faulty sensor wasnt actually the sensor itself, just a damaged connection. Took it to my regular workshop and they found the cable harness connecting to the oil signal sensor had worn through, causing intermittent connection issues. Total repair came to 95€ for replacing the wiring and checking all connections. This fixed all warning lights and the system has worked perfectly since. Before suggesting specific fixes though, could you share: Engine size and type, Exact warning messages showing up, Whether the warnings are constant or intermittent, Any recent work done on the engine This would help confirm if your issue matches what I experienced with the sensor connection problem. These symptoms can sometimes point to other issues in the oil monitoring system.

Last oil service was done at 63000km and everything was perfect. Must be the faulty sensor acting up now that I see your experience with a similar oil signal problem. My oil gauge started showing these warnings last week, completely out of the blue. The engine oil was changed during the service and levels are still good according to the dipstick. Since posting, I checked and the warnings seem to occur mainly during cold starts. Once the engine warms up, the oil detection system usually settles. Given the price you mentioned for the wiring fix, I might get this checked first before replacing the entire sensor unit. Will have the workshop look specifically at the cable harness when checking the oil monitoring setup. Thanks for the technical insight. Will update once I know more about the root cause.

Thanks for the additional details on your oil monitoring issues. That cold start behavior is actually quite telling, had the exact same pattern with my Tiguan when the wiring was failing. The sensor connection would act up most when the engine and components were cold. The oil signal problems during cold starts, followed by normal operation after warmup, strongly suggests a connection issue rather than a complete sensor failure. Temperature changes can affect loose or damaged wiring, which matches what the repair shop found in my case. Given your car has similar mileage and age to what mine had when the issue occurred, the cable harness could be showing the same wear pattern. The faulty sensor readings are likely triggered by the same root cause, deteriorated wiring near the oil monitoring components. With proper oil levels confirmed and recent service history, focusing on the wiring connections should be the first step. A full sensor replacement might be unnecessary if the workshop finds similar harness damage. Worth having them check all oil gauge connections while diagnosing the sensor issue. Let us know what they find. These oil detection system problems can be frustrating but are often fixable without major component replacement.

My engine oil was changed recently and the dipstick shows good levels, so seeing your reply really helps narrow down the issue. The oil signal warnings definitely match what you described, happening mainly during cold starts before the engine warms up. The automotive oil system seems to be working fine otherwise, which supports the theory about wiring rather than a complete sensor failure. The fact that the oil monitoring alerts settle after warmup makes me confident its likely the same connection problem you experienced with the cable harness. Given the similarity in symptoms and that our cars are about the same age, I will have the workshop focus first on checking the wiring to the faulty sensor before considering full replacement. The 95€ repair cost you mentioned for fixing the harness is much more reasonable than replacing the entire oil detection system. Will schedule an appointment to have them inspect the oil gauge connections and wiring. Thanks for helping identify the likely cause. Will update once the workshop confirms what they find.
