VW Touran Rough Idle Points to Failed Engine Mounts

Hey, your previous experience really caught my attention since I dealt with similar mount wear issues on my VW Touran last year. The defective engine mount diagnosis turned out accurate in my case. After replacing both the front engine mount and mounting bracket, the vibrations completely stopped. Just wondering, do you remember roughly what the total repair cost was for all that work? And has everything stayed solid since the fix, or have you noticed any new issues popping up? Would help me compare if the price I paid was reasonable.

After seeing my mechanic and having them perform a thorough inspection, fixing the defective engine mount really solved most issues. The actual repair was simpler than initially expected, they found a loose cable connection that was causing intermittent contact, triggering the warning light. Total cost came to 95€ for the electrical repair. All vibration issues and mount wear symptoms disappeared completely after the fix. The transmission mount was also inspected but showed no concerning wear patterns. My engine now runs smoothly without any rough idle problems. The repair has held up perfectly over the past months with no new issues emerging. This turned out much more straightforward than the extensive work initially done on my coil packs. Good thing you had your mounting bracket replaced when you did, catching these problems early prevents more expensive repairs down the line.

I recently took my Touran to get checked after reading about your similar experience. The mechanic confirmed it was actually just a worn rubber mount causing the vibration and check engine warning. Got it fixed last week for 320€ total, this included replacing both the defective engine mount and mounting bracket. The repair went smoothly and took about 3 hours. The difference in how the car runs now is remarkable, no more vibrations or rough idle issues. The check engine light has stayed off since the fix. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of assuming it needed major work. Was definitely worth addressing the mount failure early before it could cause additional problems. Always better to catch these issues before they lead to more expensive repairs. The car feels solid now and runs like new again.

Having experienced similar issues with my 2010 VW Golf 1.4 TSI, rough idle combined with check engine light often points to more than just mount failure. While engine mounts can cause vibration issues, a proper diagnosis revealed the culprit was a faulty ignition coil pack and worn rubber mount combination. The symptoms started much like yours, rough idle that got worse over time. The rubber mount degradation allowed excess engine movement, which stressed the wiring harness connections to the coil packs. The transmission mount was also showing signs of wear. The repair required: Replacing all ignition coil packs, Installing new engine mounts, Rewiring several damaged connections, Checking transmission mount alignment This turned out to be a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as continued mount wear could have led to further electrical connection damage and potential engine damage. The vibration issues completely resolved after the repair. The check engine light has not returned in the 40000km since the fix. Would strongly recommend getting a second opinion focusing on both the mounting system and ignition components.
