VW Touran Washer System Complete Failure Fix Guide

Thanks for sharing your Golf experience. My Touran had the exact same malfunction last winter. What started as an annoying washer system fault turned into both windshield and headlight cleaners not working. The mechanic found the supply hose had developed a crack, causing the cleaning fluid to leak. Like your case, absolutely no response when pressing the stalk. They ended up replacing the hose and discovered a partial clog in the system too which they cleared out. Did you keep track of what the repair cost you? Also curious if youve had any issues since getting it fixed. My total bill came to 180€ including parts and labor, but prices might vary.

Great update on that similar issue. After seeing the mechanic last month, the repair fixed both the washer system malfunction and headlight cleaning fault completely. They found a defective cable connection at the pump relay, which matches what you experienced with your system problems. The repair came to 165€ total, slightly less than your bill, and included testing the entire system to ensure no clogs were present. The Xenon headlight cleaners now activate properly every time, and the washer system responds instantly when using the stalk. Have not seen any issues since the repair. The hose connections were all checked during service, and everything has stayed watertight. Seems the faulty electrical connection was the core problem rather than any mechanical issues in the pump itself.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insights. Wanted to share how my repair went since fixing the fault last week. Took it to a new mechanic who actually found multiple issues. The main problem was a leak in the washer fluid reservoir, plus the pump wiring had corroded. They also discovered the Xenon headlight washer system had a partial blockage. Total bill came to 220€ which covered: New reservoir, Wiring repair, System flush, Labor The repair took about 2 hours. Everything works perfectly now, both the windshield washers and headlight cleaners are responding like new. Really glad I got a second opinion rather than going back to the previous shop that missed these issues. No more leaks or system faults since the fix. Money well spent to have it done right by someone who knew what they were looking for.

Had this exact fault on my 2010 VW Golf 1.4 TSI. The system problem turned out to be a failed washer pump, which also affected the headlight cleaning function since they share the same pump. Common failure points in these systems: Pump motor burnout, Broken electrical connections at the pump, Loose or corroded wiring harness, Clogged supply lines Before replacing the pump, verified there was fluid in the reservoir and checked the fuse. Both were fine. The fault was traced to pump wiring that had deteriorated near the connector. The insulation had worn through, causing an intermittent connection. This was a relatively straightforward repair but required removing several components to access the pump assembly. The headlight washer system started working immediately after fixing the wiring connection. A system clog would typically produce a different symptom, you would hear the pump running but see no fluid. Since you hear nothing when activating the stalk, this points more toward an electrical or pump issue. Would suggest testing the pump first by checking voltage at the connector when activated. This isolates whether the problem is the pump itself or the wiring leading to it.
