Had my last service at 25000km and can confirm the voice recognition system started failing shortly after. The workshop ran complete diagnostics and found the microphone repair required a full replacement due to a manufacturing defect. The fault caused issues beyond just calls, voice commands stopped working completely while basic Bluetooth functions remained operational. The solution required replacing the overhead console microphone unit and recalibrating the speech recognition module. Workshop fixed it under warranty in about 2 hours. The volume control and hands-free calling now work perfectly again. Really glad they identified the root cause quickly.

Thanks for the update on your VW Virtus microphone repair experience. Glad to hear the warranty covered the replacement, that saved you the roughly 800€ I had to pay for my Polo repair. Your symptoms match exactly what I experienced, the complete failure of voice recognition while retaining basic wireless connection capabilities. The manufacturing defect diagnosis also explains why both our cars had such similar issues despite being different model years. The overhead console microphone unit replacement is definitely the right fix here. In my case, after the repair, the speech recognition and hands-free calling functions have remained stable for over 8 months now. The audio system integration is working flawlessly again. Just make sure to test all the voice command features thoroughly before leaving the workshop, especially the ambient noise cancellation during calls. This will confirm the microphone repair was properly calibrated with the car's audio system. Good to know the service center quickly identified and resolved the issue. These microphone module failures seem to be a known weak point that VW has acknowledged in certain production runs.

Thanks everyone for the helpful input on my VW Virtus microphone issue. Just wanted to close the loop on this thread after getting everything resolved. The voice recognition and hands-free calling are now working perfectly after the warranty repair. The workshop definitely knew what they were doing, they immediately recognized the symptoms when I described the dead microphone and failing speech recognition while the wireless connection stayed active. The ambient noise cancellation is actually better than before since they installed the updated microphone module and recalibrated the system. Voice commands are crystal clear and call quality is excellent. For anyone else who encounters similar symptoms with their VW audio system, definitely get it checked at the workshop. The microphone repair took just 2 hours and was fully covered under warranty in my case. Worth every minute to have the hands-free system working properly again. Really appreciate all the responses and detailed information shared here. It helped confirm I was dealing with a known issue that had a straightforward fix.

Speaking from some experience with a similar issue on my 2020 VW Polo, I completely understand your frustration with the microphone repair situation. The symptoms were nearly identical, Bluetooth issue where calls would connect but the microphone was unresponsive. The wireless connection for music streaming worked fine, but the audio input for calls was completely dead. After multiple troubleshooting attempts, including resetting the infotainment system and re-pairing devices, I took it to the workshop. They diagnosed a defective microphone module in the overhead console, which also affected the voice control features and volume control for calls. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Replacement of the microphone module, Software update of the infotainment system, Testing all audio input functions Total cost came to 815€ including parts and labor. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you performed any system resets? Does the voice control system work for other functions? Are there any visible damage or water exposure to the overhead console? When did you last update the infotainment system? This information would help determine if youre facing the same root cause or if its potentially a different issue within the hands-free system.
