VW Virtus Infotainment Failure: Radio Issues Decoded

Having trouble with my 2018 VW Virtus infotainment system. The audio system completely stopped working and shows an error message on screen. When checking with a diagnostic tool, it shows stored errors. I suspect its related to radio reception or antenna issues since the problems started gradually with poor radio reception and static noise. Has anyone experienced something similar? Would particularly like to know what the repair shop found and fixed in your case. Car radio worked perfectly fine before these issues started appearing last week.

As someone with decent experience working on VWs, I had a very similar issue with my 2016 VW Polo. The car radio started acting up with increasing static noise and eventually stopped working completely. After dealing with radio interference for about a week, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a faulty antenna ground connection and a defective antenna amplifier. The antenna system had corroded over time, causing poor reception that eventually led to complete failure. The repair involved: Testing the antenna connections, Replacing the amplifier unit, Checking all ground points, Full diagnostic system reset Total cost was 255€ and completely resolved the issues. The vehicle electronics were fine otherwise, just the antenna system needed attention. To provide more specific guidance for your case, could you share: Whether the error message is constant or intermittent, If the problem affects all audio sources or just radio, If you notice the issues more when the car is moving, The exact error code from the diagnostic tool This information would help determine if your Virtus is experiencing the same antenna-related problems I encountered.

Last service done at 140678km. In my case, all audio sources were affected, not just the FM signal. The error code was -0xA7B2 and appeared consistently. The signal strength was especially poor while driving, suggesting a failing signal amplifier. The problem got worse over time, starting with occasional radio interference until the system stopped completely. A car radio specialist would be best equipped to properly diagnose and fix this, since generic OBD readers might not catch antenna-specific issues.

Thanks for those additional details. Based on what you described, this sounds exactly like what happened with my Polo. The error code -0xA7B2 is actually a common indicator of antenna system failure in VW infotainment units. When my signal amplifier failed, it also affected all audio sources. This happens because the amplifier module is integrated into the main audio processing circuit. A failing unit can create interference that spreads through the entire system. The worsening symptoms while driving really points to the antenna connection problem I experienced. Road vibrations tend to aggravate loose or corroded connections, which explains the intermittent issues before total failure. A couple of technical notes from my repair: The signal amplifier module was located behind the trunk liner, The ground connection had significant corrosion at the mounting point, The FM signal quality test showed less than 10% efficiency One thing I learned is that water intrusion often causes these failures. The repair shop found traces of moisture around my antenna base seal, which likely accelerated the corrosion. The diagnostic readings from your vehicle electronics match the pattern of a failing antenna system. Would recommend having the ground connections checked first, as this is often the root cause.

Thanks for the detailed information. Called a specialized car radio repair shop today and they confirmed your diagnosis matches my symptoms exactly. They mentioned the -0xA7B2 error typically indicates antenna system problems in VW models. The good news is my antenna booster was still partially working, but the poor signal quality pointed to deteriorating ground connections. The vehicle electronics diagnostic confirmed signal strength drops significantly during acceleration, which matches what you experienced with your Polo. I scheduled an appointment for next week since the issue is getting worse daily. They quoted around 280€ for: Full antenna system inspection, Signal amplifier replacement if needed, Ground connection repair, System reset and testing Will make sure they check the trunk liner area and antenna base seal you mentioned, since preventing future moisture damage could save another repair. Really helpful to know the common failure points before heading to the shop. At least I know what to expect now instead of worrying about a complete infotainment system replacement.
