VW Virtus Starting Issues: Ignition Switch Symptoms

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Virtus showed very similar starting issues last winter. The dashboard lights would come on but turning the ignition key often resulted in clicking sounds or rough starts. After diagnosis, it turned out the starter motor needed replacement along with some wiring repairs near the ignition switch. Did you keep track of the repair costs for your Jetta? Also curious if youve had any electrical problems since getting it fixed? These starting issues can sometimes indicate larger electrical system problems that show up later.

I can confirm my 2019 Jetta has been running flawlessly since getting the car ignition system fixed. The starter motor and electrical issues were completely resolved after proper diagnosis. My total repair included replacing a defective fuse which cost 52€, but the main fix was addressing the ignition switch problem. The car electronics have shown no additional issues in the months following the repair. The starting sequence is now smooth every time I turn the key, with no more clicking sounds or rough starts. Based on my experience, getting a proper diagnostic was key to preventing any cascading electrical problems. The investment in professional repair was worth it, as band-aid solutions with starter motor problems often lead to more expensive fixes down the road. The initial symptoms you described with your Virtus match exactly what I experienced, so it seems youre on the right track with the repairs youve had done.

Thanks for the input. After putting off the repair for a few weeks, I finally took my Virtus to a certified shop. The mechanic found the starter motor was failing and several wires near the ignition switch were damaged. Total bill came to 780€ including parts and labor. The dashboard lights work normally now and the car starts perfectly every time I turn the key. They also discovered and fixed some corrosion on the ignition coil connectors that could have caused problems later. Really glad I got it properly diagnosed instead of trying quick fixes. The shop did a thorough check of the car electronics and everything else looks good. No issues at all in the past month since the repair. For anyone facing similar starting problems, definitely worth getting it checked by professionals who know what to look for in the electrical system.

Recently faced a similar starting issue with my 2019 VW Jetta. The symptoms matched exactly, inconsistent starting when turning the key and rough running when the engine did fire up. Initially suspected the ignition switch, but diagnostic testing revealed multiple problems. The main culprits were a failing ignition coil and a compromised starter motor relay. The starter motor itself was drawing excessive current, which kept blowing the main starter fuse. Critical areas to check: Test voltage at the starter motor during key turn, Inspect starter motor connections for corrosion, Check ignition coil resistance readings, Verify fuse condition in the starter circuit, Test battery voltage under load This turned out to be a serious electrical system issue that required professional diagnosis. The cascade effect of the failing components could have eventually damaged the ECU if left unaddressed. Recommend having a certified technician perform a full starting system diagnostic before replacing any parts. The repair required specialized testing equipment to properly diagnose, so attempting DIY troubleshooting might not be the best approach for this particular problem.
