Thanks for sharing those details about fixing the washer heater connections. Had the same happening to my Virtus last winter. Did this repair fully solve your freezing issues in the end? Just wondering about the total cost since my washer motor is now making strange noises as well. Might need to fix both issues at once before winter hits again. Have you noticed any other electrical problems with the windshield wipers or heating element since getting it repaired?

The washer heater repair completely resolved my freezing issues. Since having the mechanic fix the faulty connection, the system has worked flawlessly through cold conditions. The repair cost was 95€ to address the defective cable and plug connections. The washer motor noise you mentioned should be checked separately, as this could indicate a different problem. When my heater malfunction was fixed, the technician inspected the entire washer system and found everything else working properly. No other electrical issues have occurred with the windshield washer components or heating element since the repair. A thorough check of the fuse box might be worthwhile while addressing these issues, as electrical problems can sometimes be connected. Having both the washer motor and heater checked together could save time and potentially reduce overall repair costs. After one full winter season post-repair, the washer fluid heats properly and flows without freezing. The investment in fixing the connection was definitely worth it for reliable winter operation.

Went ahead and got both issues checked out at my trusted mechanic yesterday. Good news, the strange noise from the washer motor turned out to be just clogged nozzles filled with mineral deposits. The tech cleaned them thoroughly and replaced the corroded wiring harness for the heating element. Total bill came to 140€ which included: Cleaning the spray nozzles, New wiring connector set, Labor for accessing the windshield heater, System testing Much better than expected since I feared needing a whole new washer motor. The windshield washer system works perfectly now, no more frozen fluid or weird noises. The heating element kicks in properly and keeps everything flowing smoothly. Really glad I got this sorted before winter. Thanks for the advice about checking the electrical connections. Saved me from unnecessarily replacing parts that just needed proper maintenance.

I experienced the same issue on my 2016 VW Jetta TSI. The windshield washer heater stopped working during winter driving conditions. After inspection, the problem was traced to corroded electrical connections at the heating element, not the element itself. The fix involved: Removing the washer fluid reservoir, Checking the fuse box for blown fuses, Testing the heater element connectivity, Cleaning and resealing the electrical connections, Installing new weatherproof connectors This heater malfunction was not a major repair but required proper diagnosis since symptoms can mimic a failed heating element. The windshield wipers worked fine, but the nozzles would freeze due to the unheated fluid. Important points to note: Use winter-grade washer fluid rated for your climate, Clean connections are crucial for proper heater function, A professional diagnostic scan will confirm if its truly an electrical issue, The heating element rarely fails completely; connection issues are more common This is a common cold weather problem worth fixing properly to prevent potential visibility issues during winter driving.
