Warning light in the speedometer area: experience with Mercedes Viano 2022 and brake wear

Hi folks, I drive a 2022 Mercedes Viano with a diesel engine that has now done 77458 km. I have recently noticed a warning light in the speedometer area. My guess is that the brakes could be worn out. Has anyone had similar symptoms and can talk about their experiences with the garage? After my last visit to the mechanic, I've become a bit skeptical. Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Mercedes Viano owner noticed a warning light in the speedometer area and suspected brake wear as the cause. Another driver shared a similar experience with a different Mercedes model, where the issue was traced to a faulty DSC/ABS control unit rather than the brakes. The solution involved replacing the control unit, which resolved the problem and ensured safety. It was recommended to have the vehicle checked for faults to determine the exact cause of the warning light.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I drive a 2019 Mercedes Sprinter and had this exact problem some time ago. The warning light I was worried about was actually a sign that the DSC/ABS control unit was faulty. It wasn't the brakes in my case though. It was a bit of a challenge as the control unit is very important for driving safety and the braking function. It was replaced in the workshop. It is very rare for this component to break, but unfortunately it did in my case. I hope this helps you and don't take it lightly! Having the car checked for faults could be a good idea. Good luck with it, regards!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply and your help! It's really surprising that it was the DSC/ABS control unit, not the brakes. Do you happen to remember how much the repair cost at the garage? And have you had any problems since then, or was everything OK? Many thanks and best regards!

Hello, sure, no problem, I remember that. The repair of the DSC/ABS control unit cost me €1000. It's a lot of money, of course, but what can you do... Safety comes first, especially when you're on the road as much as I am. And to your question: everything has been tutti since the workshop visit, no more problems. And the best thing is that the brakes, which I had previously suspected, were fine again afterwards. So it was worth it twice over! So, get it checked, buddy. It's worth it. Best regards!

Hello, that gives me a good idea of what to expect. 1000.00€ is indeed a lot of money, but as you said, safety first. It's good to hear that everything has been OK since then, that reassures me a little. I will take your advice and have the car checked. Thank you for sharing your experience. It really helps a lot! All the best and best wishes!
