Warning light on Citroen C3 2005: experience and advice wanted

Hello everyone, I drive a Citroen C3 from 2005 with a gasoline engine, which already has 109735 KM on the speedometer. A warning light is currently illuminated in the speedometer. I suspect that the brakes could be worn out. Have any of you had similar problems and what was your experience with your mechanic? My last experience was unfortunately not the best. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A Citroen C3 from 2005 has a warning light illuminated, and the owner suspects worn brakes as the cause. Another individual shared a similar experience with a Citroen C2, where faulty ECU communication required recalibration and reprogramming. The advice given was to have the car checked promptly, as the issue could be serious. The suggested solution is to consult a mechanic to diagnose and address the problem before it potentially worsens.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Citroen C2. A warning light came on and I had sporadic faulty communication between the ECUs. It turned out that my ECUs needed to be recalibrated and reprogrammed. This was a pretty serious problem and it took a while to fix. My advice to you would be to get the car into a garage as soon as possible. It could be something serious. Have a safe journey!

Hey, thanks for your reply. I'm really a little worried that it could be something more serious than worn brakes. If you don't mind me asking, could you remember how much it cost you to recalibrate and reinstall the ECUs? And another thing, did you have any other problems with your Citroen after that? I just want to know if I'm in for more trouble. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I can well understand your grief. When I had the problem with the sporadically faulty communication between the control units, I paid €955. It wasn't cheap, but afterwards everything ran like clockwork again. And because of the brakes, which were actually worn out, I had them replaced directly by the mechanic. I haven't had any further problems with my Citroen since. My tip: Have it checked before it gets more serious. Good luck with your car!

Thanks for your advice and info, really appreciated. Sounds like an expensive repair, but I'll definitely get it checked out. I won't ignore the warning light any longer! It's reassuring to hear that no further difficulties have arisen after fixing this problem. Well, hopefully I'll be as lucky as you. I'll keep you up to date. Until then, happy driving everyone!
