Warning Lights After Oil Change, VW Up Oil Issues

Thanks for the detailed reply. That sounds exactly like what I am dealing with. I will take it back tomorrow morning. The mechanic suggested it might be a simple sensor issue, but your experience makes me think otherwise. Did you remember roughly how much the whole fix cost you? Also, have you had any recurring problems since they sorted it? Side note, good call on suggesting the OEM filter. Heard too many stories about universal filters causing engine oil leaks and pressure problems. Really hoping I can avoid major engine damage if I get this fixed quickly.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting it properly fixed, my VW has been running perfectly with no oil sludge or pressure issues. The repair shop admitted they used non-OEM parts initially, which caused the oil contamination. The total fix came to 165€, covering the full service with genuine parts and proper oil. This included: Complete oil system flush, New OEM filter, High-quality synthetic oil, System diagnostics Worth noting that catching it early prevented any serious engine damage. No warning lights or oil pressure problems since then. The oil color returned to normal after the proper service, and the engine runs smoother than before. If your symptoms match what I experienced, getting it addressed quickly should resolve the issue without complications. Just make sure they use the correct oil additives and genuine parts this time.

After dealing with those warning lights, I took it back to the mechanic first thing this morning. Just like you mentioned, they found the wrong oil filter was causing pressure problems and oil contamination. The engine oil looked much worse than when I first noticed it. The shop admitted their mistake and did a complete fix: Full system flush, New genuine VW filter, Fresh synthetic oil, Reset all warnings Total cost came to 180€, but they gave me a discount since it was their error. The oil pressure warning cleared instantly, and the check engine light went off after a short drive. The mechanic showed me the old filter they used, it was definitely a cheap universal one. Now I know to always ask for OEM parts, especially for oil changes. No point risking engine damage to save a few Euro. At least it got sorted quickly without causing permanent issues. Engine sounds much better now and the oil color is back to normal. Lesson learned about being more careful when choosing a new service shop.

Had a similar situation with my 2018 VW Polo TSI last month. Oil pressure and check engine warnings after an oil change typically point to a few potential issues. The darker engine oil color combined with warning lights suggests possible oil contamination or incorrect oil viscosity. When this happened to my Polo, the root cause was a poorly seated oil filter and incorrect oil type for the TSI engine. Main concerns to address: Oil filter might not be properly tightened, Wrong oil grade could be used, Oil pressure sensor might be affected by debris, Oil level could be incorrect This is a serious issue requiring immediate attention. In my case, the mechanic had used a universal oil filter instead of OEM, causing poor sealing and pressure issues. The fix involved: Complete engine oil flush, New genuine oil filter installation, Correct grade synthetic oil refill, Clearing error codes Stop driving and get it back to the shop. Oil pressure warnings can indicate potential engine damage if ignored. The combination of warning lights right after service strongly suggests installation errors rather than coincidental system failures.
