Windshield wiper malfunction in the Mercedes SLC Class 2010: Possible causes and solutions

Hello everyone, I drive a Mercedes SLC class from 2010 with a gasoline engine and have already driven around 176069 km. I have now noticed that my windshield wipers are no longer working properly. I suspect it could be due to a malfunction of the rain/light sensor. Have any of you ever had a similar problem and could you tell me what the mechanic said about it? I was really disappointed with the garage last time and would like some information before I go back. Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Mercedes SLC Class owner is experiencing windshield wiper malfunction and suspects the rain/light sensor might be the cause. Another person shared a similar issue with their Mercedes, where bubbles under the gel pad of the windshield affected the sensor's performance. The solution involved replacing the gel pad, which resolved the sensor issue and restored proper wiper function. The owner is advised to consult a mechanic, considering this potential cause and solution.

Hello, I had the same problem with my 2013 Mercedes CLK. My problem was bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield. Seems to be a rather unusual problem, but somehow related to the rain/light sensor. The sensor wasn't working properly and was constantly switching on the windshield wipers, even when it wasn't raining at all. It was quite a hassle to fix, first had to remove the old gel pad and then fit a new one. Clearly, it was a serious problem because the windshield wipers were no longer working reliably. Hopefully this will help you. Good luck at the workshop! Best regards!

Hi, Sounds like my problem when my sensor gave up the ghost. I didn't have the problem with the gel pad though. I'm assuming that it wasn't exactly cheap for you to fix the whole thing. Do you remember how much you had to pay for the repair? And have there been any more problems since then, or has everything remained calm? Merci!

Hey, yes, the issue with the gel pad was certainly no small matter. It cost me €62.50 to solve the bubble problem under the gel pad on the windshield. But since then the rain/light sensor has been working perfectly again, thank goodness. After the visit to the mechanic, there were no further problems. So it seems that the problem has been completely resolved. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works just as well for you! See you then!

Thank you, well then I hope that it won't be too expensive for me either. It's good to know that you haven't had any further problems afterwards, which at least gives me some hope. Thank you for your help and advice. I'll see what the mechanic says and hope that my windshield wipers are working properly again soon. Bye and thank you again!
