Windshield wiper malfunction on 2009 Toyota FJCruiser: experience and solutions wanted
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Toyota FJCruiser is experiencing windshield wiper malfunctions, suspected to be related to the rain/light sensor. A similar issue was resolved in a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado by addressing bubbling under the windshield gel pad, which affected the sensors. The solution involved replacing the gel pad and resealing the windshield, which successfully resolved the problem. This suggests that a similar approach might be effective for the FJCruiser.

Hey, thanks for the info! Sounds like it was quite a mess for you. Can you remember what the cost was when you had your car fixed at the garage? And have you had any problems with the sensor or wipers since then?

Hey, no problem, gladly! When they repaired the bubble under the gel pad on my windshield, it cost me €62. Fortunately, I haven't had any more problems with the rain/light sensor or the wipers since then. The guys in the workshop seem to have done a good job!

Great, now I have a better feeling about going to the garage again. Even though it's always bitter to have additional costs, you feel safer when your visibility is no longer impaired. After all, it seems to be a simple repair. Thank you very much for your help and experience reports, they have really helped me.

Hey, I know the problem! I had similar problems with my 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. At my last workshop visit, it was determined that bubbling under the windshield gel pad was the main cause. The technicians said that this could also be affecting the light and rain sensors, which probably explained my wiper problems. They had to replace the gel pad and resealed the front windshield to prevent future problems. It was already a serious problem because visibility was severely impaired and affected safety on the road. Hope this helps!
