Windstar AC Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Windstar is experiencing issues with the air conditioning system, specifically related to a temperature sensor in the heat exchanger. The symptoms include error messages in the memory, a message on the speedometer, and the AC not turning on. The problem is suspected to be linked to the AC control unit. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked at a workshop, where it was confirmed that the temperature sensor was causing the defect, leading to a repair.

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you explain what you mean by sensor calibration? And did you have the exact same symptoms—error memory, speedometer message, and no AC?

Yes, all those symptoms were identical. The air conditioning refusing to switch on was the most frustrating part, especially in summer. Honestly, I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop; it could save you a lot of time and potential further damage.

Your advice was spot on. I took it to a workshop, and it was the temperature sensor in the heat exchanger, which they confirmed was causing an AC control unit defect. The repair cost me 980€.

I had something similar happen with my Windstar. Check the sensor calibration. Is your temperature gauge acting erratically too? It could point to the same issue.
