Windstar BUS System Errors

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2002 Ford Windstar with a gasoline engine. At 118779 km, it's throwing sporadic errors in driving mode, and the error lamps light up sometimes. Plus, the audio/navigation and other systems are failing, and I've seen temporary shutdowns and unresponsive control units. The diagnostic scan shows an error stored in the memory. Could a bad cable connection to the BUS system be the problem?

Sounds a lot like a problem I had with my Opel Vectra. Seemingly unrelated systems went haywire. Have you checked the wiring harness for corrosion or physical damage? The BUS system is pretty sensitive, and even a small issue can cause a lot of errors.

When you say wiring harness, do you mean just the control unit's connection, or the whole BUS network? Is there a specific part of the harness that's more likely to fail?

For me, the control unit connection was the main problem. But check the whole BUS network, since other connections could be bad too. Given the age of our cars, it's worth taking it to a shop. I took my Vectra to a good workshop, and they found and fixed the connection for a reasonable price. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I took my Windstar to a technician, and they confirmed it was a defective cable connection to the control unit, just like you thought. The repair cost 155€ and fixed the problem. Hopefully, this helps anyone else with the same issue.
