Windstar control module error
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Windstar is experiencing a malfunction indicator light and error messages, with a fault code related to a control module. The issue may stem from incorrect vehicle coding. A suggested solution is to have the control module recoded at a workshop using specialized software, as this is not typically a DIY fix.

The code I'm getting is B1318. I've tried clearing it with my cheapo scanner, but it just pops right back up after a few minutes. Is that the same thing you experienced? Did you ever find out what caused the issue?

Yeah, the code reappearing is definitely something I saw. In the end, it turned out that the coding of the vehicle was indeed incorrect. I couldn't fix it myself. You'll probably need to take it to a workshop to have them recode the control module using specialized software. They should be able to sort it out.

Okay, I appreciate the insight! Sounds like my tinkering days are over on this one. Looks like a trip to the shop is in order. For anyone else facing this, the final repair bill was 360€. I hope this thread can help someone else in the future!

I had a similar issue on my Windstar. Get a proper scan tool that can read the specific code. It does sound like a control module problem. What's the exact code you're getting?
