I haven't checked the thermostat housing, but I looked for coolant leaks. I haven't done any diagnostics other than seeing the overheating and slow warm-up. How did you figure out it was the map-controlled thermostat on your Volvo?

My Volvo had error codes pointing to the thermostat circuit. Since you don't have error codes but have similar symptoms, a defective map thermostat is likely. Given the age and mileage, I'd suggest a workshop inspect the thermostat and cooling system. The repair cost me around 350€ on my Volvo.

Thanks for the advice. I'll book an appointment with a workshop to check the thermostat and cooling system on my Windstar. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I had the same issue with my 2008 Volvo S80: overheating and slow warm-up. It was a bad map-controlled thermostat. The thermostat housing or a faulty temperature sensor could also be the problem. Have you checked the thermostat housing for leaks or damage? What have you done besides noticing the symptoms?
