Windstar Steering Wheel Vibration
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Ford Windstar experienced steering wheel vibration and difficulty turning, suggesting potential power steering failure or alignment issues. The presence of an electronic stability program light and speed-related shaking indicated a likely problem with the steering angle sensor. It was advised to have a professional replace the sensor, which resolved the issue.

Yes, there is a light on. It's the electronic stability program light. The shaking seems to get worse when I'm driving faster. What does this mean? And should I check the steering column myself, or is that a job for a professional?

That ESP light and speed-related shaking definitely point towards a steering angle sensor issue. It could be faulty coding. Messing with the steering column without proper knowledge could make things worse. Best to take it to a workshop and have the sensor replaced. It will cost around 195€.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – it was the steering angle sensor. Replacing it fixed the problem! I really appreciate your help!

Sounds like it could be a few things. Any lights on the dash, like the traction control or electronic stability program? When does the shaking happen? Does it change with speed, or is it constant? Has anyone checked the steering column?
