Winner ABS Light Lateral Acceleration Sensor

I'm having a weird issue with my 2003 Nissan Winner, it's got a gasoline engine. The ABS light keeps popping on, and then the whole ABS system seems to just shut down. Super annoying! I ran a diagnostic scan, and it's throwing a code related to the lateral acceleration sensor. Anyone else run into this? I'm not super mechanically inclined, but I'm trying to figure this out before I take it to a shop and get completely ripped off. It's got about 117368 km on the clock. Is this something I can even attempt to fix myself?

Summary of the thread

The ABS light issue in a 2003 Nissan Winner is linked to a fault in the lateral acceleration sensor, as indicated by the error code C1145. This sensor is crucial for the electronic stability control system, and its malfunction can lead to the ABS system shutting down. While checking the sensor's connections and wiring for damage or corrosion is advisable, the error code suggests an internal failure of the sensor itself. Due to the complexity of replacing and recalibrating the sensor, it is recommended to have the repair performed by a qualified workshop.

Lateral acceleration sensor faults on the Winner are somewhat common. The ABS light illuminating and the system disabling are typical symptoms. The error code you retrieved points towards a problem within the electronic stability control system. The lateral acceleration sensor provides data related to yaw rate and wheel alignment. Before replacing parts, double-check the sensor's connections and wiring harness. A damaged or corroded connection can cause intermittent faults. Do you know the exact error code?

Thanks for the info! I did wiggle the wires a bit, but didn't see anything obvious. The exact error code is C1145. Does that tell you anything more specific? And when you say 'double-check the connections', what exactly should I be looking for? I'm worried about messing something up even more.

C1145 confirms a defective lateral acceleration sensor. It's likely the control unit itself is faulty. While checking connections is always good practice, the symptoms and the error code strongly suggest internal failure. Given your expertise level, I'd recommend taking it to a qualified workshop for proper diagnosis and repair. Replacing the sensor and recalibrating the system requires specialized tools. Neglecting this can impact vehicle stability.

Alright, sounds like I'm out of my depth. Thanks for the advice! I took it to a reputable shop, and you were spot on – it was the lateral acceleration sensor. The whole repair, including the sensor replacement and recalibration, ended up costing me about 1000€. Expensive, but at least the ABS is working again!
