WRV Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Honda WRV diesel experienced an engine warning light, reduced power, and smoke with a strong odor from the exhaust. Diagnostics indicated low diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure, leading to the suspicion of a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. After consulting a mechanic, the sensor was confirmed to be faulty and was replaced, resolving the issue.

How do I check the sensor connections for corrosion or looseness? Do I need special tools or procedures to examine them safely?

I'm no expert, but my mechanic said a visual inspection was enough. He checked if the connectors were firmly attached and looked for green or white powdery stuff (corrosion) on the metal parts. Given your symptoms, it might be best to take it to a reliable workshop. They'll have the tools to diagnose it properly.

I took the WRV to a certified mechanic, as you recommended. The exhaust back pressure sensor was defective, as suspected. The total repair cost was 245€. The issue is resolved, and the car is running well again.

I had a similar problem with my 2014 Opel Astra diesel: engine light, power loss, the works. I didn't notice smoke, though. Have you checked for exhaust leaks? Also, look at the sensor connections; maybe they're loose or corroded?
