WRV Intake Hose Leak

I've got a 2023 Honda WRV with a gasoline engine that's giving me grief. It's got about 74k km on it. I'm pretty sure I've got a leak in the air intake system. The mileage has tanked, the check engine light is on, and I'm hearing a loud hissing sound when I accelerate. Suspect it's an intake hose. Anyone else run into something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Honda WRV owner suspects a leak in the air intake system due to decreased mileage, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound during acceleration. The likely cause is identified as a cracked intake hose, which can lead to rough engine performance and misfiring. A suggested method to confirm the leak is spraying soapy water around the intake hoses to check for bubbles. Ultimately, the issue is resolved by replacing the cracked hose at a local shop, restoring normal vehicle performance.

Whoa, a hissing sound? That definitely sounds like an air leak somewhere after the air filter. With higher fuel consumption and the check engine light, it is very likely the intake hose. Does the engine sound rough, like it's misfiring? Have you checked the air filter recently? A blocked filter could put extra stress on the intake system. It could be the turbocharger too. But the hose is the most likely culprit.

Misfiring? Now that you mention it, it does sound a little rough at idle. How can I confirm that the intake hose is leaking before I start tearing things apart? Any simple tests?

Okay, the misfire symptom strengthens the case for an intake leak! One trick you could try is spraying some soapy water around the intake hoses while the engine is running. If there's a leak, you should see bubbles forming. But honestly, with those symptoms, it's probably best to get it checked out by a workshop. They'll have smoke testing equipment to pinpoint even small leaks. It will cost around 100€ to fix it.

Thanks for the confirmation and the soapy water trick! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – it was a cracked intake hose. They replaced it, and the hissing is gone, the check engine light is off, and the fuel economy is back to normal. Cost me 100€. Appreciate the help!
