WRV Preheating Lamp and Check Engine Light
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Honda WRV diesel with 206,000 km is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective preheating control unit, possibly due to a cable or plug issue. It is suggested to check the voltage supplied to the preheating control unit, as low voltage can mimic a defective unit. Ultimately, a workshop identified and fixed a defective connection to the preheating control unit, resolving the issue.

Thanks! Where exactly should I measure that voltage, and what reading am I looking for?

Defective cable or plug connections often cause these problems in Honda WRV car electronics. The preheating system is complex and requires specific tools. To avoid further problems, have a workshop deal with it. That should resolve the check engine light too.

You were right. The shop found a defective connection to the preheating control unit. 95€ to fix. Thanks for the help!

I own a WRV too. Your symptoms sound familiar. Double-check the voltage supplied to the preheating control unit. Low voltage can mimic a defective unit. Measure the voltage at the connector when the preheating lamp is on.
