Thanks for the tip Oil contamination is a good idea I'll check the air intake and sensor itself for that When you say 'diagnostics' are you referring to using an OBD2 scanner to read the fault codes

Precisely An OBD2 scanner should give you a definitive error code related to the mass air flow sensor if that is indeed the issue Considering all the symptoms you described it does seem likely While cleaning the sensor might help temporarily a full replacement is often necessary for a long-term fix I would advise getting it checked out by a professional to avoid further issues

Confirmed it was the mass air flow meter It cost me 365€ at the workshop parts and labor Fuel economy is back to normal no more stalling or smoke Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Interesting symptoms The higher fuel consumption and stalling do point towards a mass air flow problem Did you check the air intake for obstructions I had a similar issue on my old BMW 3 series it turned out the MAF sensor was covered in oil due to a faulty crankcase ventilation valve It might be worth inspecting Have you considered running any diagnostics
