X Klasse Diesel Oil Light Issue Resolved
Summary of the thread
The initial problem was the oil light being on in a 2020 X Klasse Diesel with high mileage, suspected to be due to oil contamination or overdue service. The possible cause identified was exceeding the maintenance interval, leading to deteriorated oil and potential oil sludge buildup. The suggested solution was an immediate oil and filter change, followed by a professional inspection to check for engine damage. The issue was resolved with an oil and filter change, confirming it was due to overdue service.

No other symptoms noticed. Just the light. Additives? Never used them. Should I be concerned about oil sludge?

Oil sludge is indeed a concern. It restricts oil flow, exacerbating oil pressure issues and accelerating engine wear. Since you've exceeded the maintenance interval and are experiencing low oil pressure, I'd strongly recommend getting an oil change done immediately. Given the mileage, it would be wise to have a mechanic inspect the engine for any signs of damage. An oil change might solve the issue temporarily, but a professional assessment is crucial to rule out lasting problems. You may have avoided engine damage, but do not risk it. Skip the additives for now, focus on the oil change.

Thanks. Turns out it was just the overdue service. Oil and filter change sorted it. Cost 165€

I also drive an X Klasse with a diesel engine. The oil pressure warning lamp illuminating can be a serious matter. The most immediate concern is potential engine damage due to insufficient lubrication. Exceeding the maintenance interval, as you suspect, is a very plausible cause. Deteriorated oil loses its protective properties and can lead to oil sludge buildup. Think of it like arteries clogging up. Have you noticed any other symptoms, such as unusual engine noises or reduced performance? Also, what type of oil have you been using, and have you considered using any oil additives?
