X Klasse Overheating Issue Resolved

My 2018 Mercedes X Klasse diesel is overheating like crazy. Seems like the electric fan isn't kicking in properly. Anyone else run into this? I'm guessing it's a dodgy cable or plug connection.

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Mercedes X Klasse diesel was experiencing overheating issues, suspected to be due to the electric fan not functioning properly. The initial guess was a faulty cable or plug connection. A suggestion was made to inspect the fan clutch, but it was clarified that the electric fan is the primary cooling mechanism in this model. The recommendation was to seek professional diagnostics to check the wiring and control circuits. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by fixing a bad connection on the electric fan.

I am familiar with the X Klasse. I had a similar issue with my vehicle's engine cooling system. If the radiator fan isn't operating as expected, it could certainly lead to overheating. Have you inspected the fan clutch? This component's failure is notorious for causing such problems. Furthermore, consider the implications of a malfunctioning electric fan in relation to the overall engine cooling strategy of your vehicle.

Fan clutch? Never heard of it. Where do I find that, and what am I looking for exactly? Any easy way to check it before I start tearing things apart?

The fan clutch is responsible for modulating the speed of the radiator fan relative to the engine temperature. However, in your 2018 X Klasse, the auxiliary electric fan is the primary cooling mechanism. Given the symptoms you describe and the potential for electrical issues, I would recommend seeking professional diagnostic services to assess the integrity of the wiring and associated control circuits. It might be cost-effective in the long run. It is a nuanced system, and improper interventions could exacerbate the underlying problem. I would take it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a bad connection on the electric fan. 95€ later, and it's fixed!
