X6 Rough Idle & Stalling: FPR Failure Signs?

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful, and it's good to know it wasn't anything too serious in your case. The connector issue actually makes a lot of sense, I'll definitely have that checked first before jumping to replace the regulator. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the diagnostic and fix? Also, have you had any similar issues pop up since then? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for what might come next.

Hey again! Glad I could help with my previous insight. Since you asked, after I got it fixed up, everything's been running smooth as silk. The mechanic found that my initial hunch about the connector was only part of the story, turned out the fuel pressure regulator itself was actually acting up too. Got that sorted and they cleared out the error code that popped up after the fuel filter change. Only set me back about 45 bucks for dealing with the error code cleanup, which wasn't bad at all. And I can tell you, it was worth every penny, my X5's been purring like a kitten since then. No more rough idling, stalling, or any of that nonsense. Haven't seen a single issue pop up since the repair, and it's been quite a while now. Just a heads up, if you do end up needing the regulator replaced like I did, getting it done sooner rather than later is the way to go. These things tend to get worse if you let them slide, you know what I mean? Trust me, your BMW will thank you for it!

Thanks for all the details! Just got back from the mechanic today, and thought I'd update you on what happened. Turns out my situation was a bit different from yours. They found a faulty oxygen sensor that was messing with the fuel mixture, causing all those symptoms. The repair was pricier than I expected, around €300 including parts and labor. But man, what a difference it made! The engine's running super smooth now, no more rough idling or stalling. Really glad I got it checked out promptly instead of letting it drag on. Funny thing is, the mechanic also spotted a loose wire connection near the sensor, probably would've caused more problems down the line if left unchecked. Talk about good timing! Thanks again for pushing me to get it looked at properly. Definitely saved me from bigger headaches later on.

Hey there, I had nearly identical issues with my BMW X5 2020 last winter after changing the fuel filter. Same symptoms, rough idle, occasional stalls, and that dreaded check engine light. After a proper diagnosis, it turned out the fuel pressure sensor connector wasn't properly seated after the filter change. The sensor was getting intermittent readings, causing the fuel pressure regulation to go haywire. The ECU was basically getting confused and couldn't maintain proper fuel delivery. The fix was actually pretty straightforward, removing and properly reseating the connector, followed by clearing the error codes. While it wasn't a serious issue in terms of potential damage, it definitely needed immediate attention to prevent any fuel system complications. I'd suggest having someone check the connections and sensors around your recent fuel system work, could save you from unnecessarily replacing the pressure regulator. These symptoms don't always mean the regulator itself is bad.
