XC40 Anti-theft Alarm Errors

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2012 Volvo XC40 gasoline. The anti-theft alarm keeps throwing errors and seems to be completely non-functional. The error memory has a fault stored, and basically, the alarm just doesn't work. Has anyone experienced anything similar? The car has 161762 km on it. Could it be a power failure?

Strange! I have an XC40 too, and something similar happened to me last year. The alarm would just randomly go off, or sometimes not work at all when I tried to lock the car. Did you notice if it started happening after any specific event, like maybe after the battery was disconnected?

That's interesting! I haven't noticed it happening after any specific event. But, now that you mention the battery, it was getting a bit weak recently. I haven't disconnected it, but could a slightly weak battery cause the alarm to malfunction like that?

Yep, a weak battery can definitely mess with the alarm system! The system is coded to activate optical locking (indicators), and in my case, that was the reason! I kept putting it off, but finally I took it to a workshop. They ran a diagnostic, reprogrammed something related to the alarm system, and everything was back to normal. I think it's worth having it checked. I would go to the workshop

Okay, thanks for the info! That's super helpful. I'll take it to the workshop and have them check the alarm system and the battery. I found an invoice for 45€ that I had forgotten about, so that's a great starting point. Cheers!
