XC40 Check Engine Light and Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Volvo XC40 with a gasoline engine experienced a check engine light and stalling when idling, particularly when cold. The scan indicated an issue with the tank ventilation valve. A potential cause was identified as clogged hoses connected to the ventilation valve, restricting airflow. Cleaning these hoses resolved the problem, eliminating the check engine light and stalling.

Which hoses are you referring to? Are they easy to access?

They were directly connected to the ventilation valve itself, near the fuel tank. I couldn't get them completely clear myself. A workshop confirmed it was clogged hoses. Unless you're comfortable working on cars, I'd recommend a professional.

I took it to the shop as you suggested, and you were spot on. The hoses were indeed clogged. They cleaned everything out, and the check engine light is gone, and the engine no longer stalls. Cost me around 175€, which isn't too bad. Thanks!

I had a similar issue last year with my XC40: check engine light and occasional stalling. Have you checked the hoses connected to the ventilation valve? Mine were clogged, restricting airflow.
