XC40 Diesel Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Volvo XC40 diesel experienced stalling at idle, reduced engine power, and a check engine light. The issue was suspected to be a faulty fuel pressure regulator, potentially triggered by an error during a recent fuel filter change. After consulting a workshop, the defective regulator was confirmed and replaced, resolving the problem and restoring the vehicle's performance.

The idle is noticeably rough, and I think fuel efficiency has diminished slightly. What specific fuel rail pressure sensor readings should I be looking for, and what's the acceptable range? Also, how hard is it to replace the fuel pressure regulator itself on this engine?

If idle is rough, and you're seeing reduced power, it's pointing to the regulator. I wouldn't replace it yourself without proper tools. An error entry after fuel filter replacement is very likely the cause. Get it checked by a workshop, might be a quick fix or just a reset.

I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the fuel pressure regulator was defective, likely due to the error entry. The repair was 45€, including parts and labor. The XC40 is running smoothly again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator. Is the idle rough? Could be fuel efficiency dropping too. Check the fuel rail pressure sensor readings if you can.
