XC40 Fog Sensor Error

I've got a bit of a head-scratcher. My 2018 Volvo XC40 diesel, with 162585 km on the clock, is throwing a fog sensor error. The air conditioning won't kick on, the windshield washer nozzles are frozen solid even when it's not that cold, and the heated mirrors are dead. Could a faulty cable or plug really cause all that? Anyone seen anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Volvo XC40 was experiencing a fog sensor error, causing issues with the air conditioning, windshield washer nozzles, and heated mirrors. The problem was suspected to be related to a faulty cable or plug. After a professional assessment, it was determined that a corroded connector on the fog sensor harness was the cause, and the issue was resolved with a repair costing 95€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. The symptoms you describe are indeed consistent with a malfunctioning fog sensor. However, before definitively concluding that a cable or plug connection is the sole culprit, have you attempted to perform a diagnostic scan to ascertain the specific error code being registered? Furthermore, has the sensor's calibration been verified to ensure it falls within acceptable parameters?

Good questions. I have the error code stored, yes. As for the calibration, is that something I can check myself without specialized tools? Or is it a 'leave it to the pros' kind of thing?

Considering the interconnected nature of modern automotive systems, and given the constellation of issues you are experiencing, it would be prudent to have a qualified technician conduct a thorough inspection. While certain diagnostic procedures can be performed by individuals, the calibration of a fog sensor often necessitates specialized equipment. The potential repair cost you mentioned appears reasonable, especially if it addresses all the identified issues. It is advisable to proceed with a professional assessment to preclude any unforeseen complications.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to the shop. Turns out it was indeed a corroded connector on the fog sensor harness. 95€ later, everything's back up and running. Thanks again!
