XC40 Jerking and Power Loss

I've got a 2019 Volvo XC40 diesel with 130751 km on the clock. Lately, it's been jerking when I accelerate, the check engine light is on, and there's a noticeable loss of power. I've also noticed the engine stalls at idle sometimes and runs pretty rough. There's also a strong exhaust smell. The error memory has recorded some faults. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar. I've got an XC40 diesel as well. I had similar symptoms a while back – jerking, rough running, and the check engine light. Have you checked the intake manifold? It might be leaking. I had that issue and it caused all sorts of problems with the engine performance. Do you hear any hissing sounds?

Intake manifold, huh? I haven't checked that specifically. Where exactly should I be looking for a leak, and what would cause that? Is that a common problem with the XC40?

Yeah, the intake manifold. On mine, it turned out the manifold was scorched and leaking. I didn't spot the leak myself, to be honest; my mechanic found it. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it checked out properly. It's not something easily fixed at home unless you are experienced.
