XC40 Lighting Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Volvo XC40 with 222,650 km is experiencing a 'Fault in the lighting' error, with lights switching on randomly. The issue is suspected to be related to the light switch or a connection problem. A similar problem was resolved by addressing a defective cable or plug connection near the light switch. The recommended solution is to have a qualified workshop diagnose and repair the issue, which in this case, involved replacing a faulty connector to the light switch.

Thanks for the quick reply! It's mostly the headlights and the dashboard lights that are acting up. Where exactly was the defective cable or plug connection located in your case? Was it near the switch itself, or somewhere else in the system? Also, where is the light switch cable located?

In my situation, the problem was definitely related to the light switch and its immediate connections. Given the error code and symptoms, I'd strongly recommend taking your XC40 to a qualified workshop. Modern car electrics can be complex, and without the proper diagnostic equipment, you might cause more harm than good.

I took the XC40 to my local mechanic, and it was indeed a faulty connector to the light switch, just like you suspected! They replaced the connector, cleared the error code, and everything seems to be working perfectly now. The repair cost me 95€ Thanks a lot for your help!

I have a Volvo XC40 too. I remember encountering a similar issue with the lights a while back. It turned out to be a defective cable or plug connection. Which lights are switching on? Have you tried wiggling the wires behind the light switch to see if it affects anything?
