XC40 Mirror Heating Issue

I'm having trouble with the mirror heating on my 2020 Volvo XC40 diesel. At 82449 kilometers, the rearview mirror heating elements don't seem to activate, even in cold weather. My OBD scanner shows an error code related to the mirror heating system. I suspect a fault within the cable or plug connection. Has anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

The 2020 Volvo XC40 diesel had a mirror heating issue, with the heating elements not activating and an OBD error code B12D3-15 indicating an open or short circuit in the right side mirror heating element. The suspected cause was a fault within the cable or plug connection. After checking fuses and ruling out other electrical issues, it was recommended to seek professional diagnosis. The workshop identified a defective plug connection within the mirror assembly, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

I understand you are experiencing issues with your Volvo XC40's mirror heating. Have you checked the relevant fuses? A blown fuse can often be the culprit. Could you specify the exact error code you retrieved from the OBD scanner? Have you noticed any other electrical issues such as the automatic temperature control exhibiting any strange behaviour or just the mirror's?

I have inspected the fuses, and they appear to be functioning correctly. The error code is B12D3-15, which pertains to an open circuit or short circuit to battery in the right side mirror heating element. I have not observed any anomalies with the automatic temperature control or other electrical components. Considering the error code and the absence of other electrical faults, what would be your recommendation for further investigation?

Given that you've checked the fuses and the error code points to a fault specifically within the mirror heating circuit itself, and assuming it is not a general climate control issue, it does seem like the problem lies within the mirror assembly or its immediate wiring. I would then suggest taking the car to a trusted local workshop. They can use professional diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact location of the open or short circuit within the mirror's heating element or wiring. Attempting to repair this yourself without the proper tools and expertise could potentially lead to further complications or damage.

Following your advice, I brought my Volvo XC40 to a local workshop for a professional diagnosis. As suspected, the issue was a defective plug connection within the mirror assembly, resulting in an open circuit. The repair involved replacing the faulty connector, and the mirror heating function is now operating correctly. The total cost for the repair was approximately 95€.
